Can I have GTC login/pass as well?

do you have any proof whatsoever that this was the reason or even one of the reasons? Or are you just finding convenient facts and fit them in your narrative?

No choice in that my GTC credentials seem to be invalid.

There's a new version available... and it adds "General Availability".

Although the output seems to exactly match the GTC availability, so I'm wondering if GA isn't just GTC masked by some different credentials stored on the server.

Before this "incident", I never really thought about how KVS gets its data. I just assumed that this data is one part reason for the payment scheme.

But after this... I'm really starting to question this tool and its legality when it comes to gathering data.

Would you mind sharing which site it scrapes? My flightstats scraper no longer works (of course) and GTC looked like a bit of a PITA.

I see with the new download, KVS now shows revenue fare class availability for Delta again. How they do it, I don't care and don't wanna know.

I know what KVS is, I know what KVS does, I know that much info can be gotten for free from various sources, but I still subscribe to KVS, because it makes many of my regular searches much more convenient and centralized in an extremely useful tool.

Agreed. It's sort of bizarre the Javert-types who come out of the woodwork to rant against this software. If you don't like it, don't use it.

I have the same error L1 as well after upgrade to the latest version. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

You are completely missing the point. It was never a discussion of paying for something which was available for free. It was not a discussion in screen scraping. It was a discussion on KVS asking you to obtain access to a system where you do not have permission to do so to begin with.

FS allowed the general public to sign up. There was no issue with FS having to provide permission/consent for the general public to sign up.

When FS shut down, KVS directed donors to sign up for an account from a "data provider" where it was clear that only those who have actual affiliations to that "data provider" were eligible to have an account. It was also clear that this "data provider" wasn't informed on what was going on or have provided permission for the donors with no affiliations to have accounts.

In some jurisdictions accessing a system without permission could be consider illegal. KVS was offloading that legal risk to you and was knowingly coy about it with the cryptic GTC account enrollment instructions.

The fact that KVS even thought about and actually acted on by asking its donors to take on this legal risk is offensive.

If this ITN provider does not offer general public access, then KVS is continuing with accessing data in a manner incompatible with the account agreement. It's just going to be a matter of time before the data provider KVS selected to connect to figure out what is going on and shut down access. KVS will then try to find another GTC-based provider with a not-so-secure account registration process and repeat this cat-n-mouse game.

I guess the owners of the new data source that was being misused figured it :eek:ut.

Same for me. Neither Availability (GA or GTC) is working, nor is Fares/PSH. I did not explore any further.

Like others, I know I can find the same info in various places, but I pay for the convenience provided by the KVS Tool. No complaints or concerns (as long as it is working ;))

Do you guys see v7.5.0? I downloaded the latest ver couple times and mine shows 7.4.6.R2?

Also how do I get GTC Membership Credentials (e.g. xyzcorporate/smith)? I searched on KVS website but couldn't figure out :confused:

We have identified and resolved an issue that was causing an incorrect error message to be displayed to some users.

Please download KVS Tool V7.5.1 and try again.

Working again for me as well, so likely a temporary server problem rather than anything more nefarious. No problem checking AC availability, at least.

Please clear your browser's cache or try using a different one to download.

A3 Award Availability should be checked via the [Awards/StarAlliance] / [Awards/AC-StarAlliance] Methods, as noted in the KVS Tool User Guide:

7.5.0 is working for me now. (Edit - only Availability, not Fares).

I downloaded and installed 7.5.1, and still the Fares option is giving a datasource error.

I cleared my browser history & cache several times. Deleted previous KVS downloads, restarted computer few times and still downloads and installs 7.4.6.R even if I select 7.5.1.

Also, how do I get GTC membership credentials? I read through info on KVSTool website but doesn't tell me how to register. Help please.

Downloaded latest version and Availability/GA working.

I'm like a little kid covering my ears and saying:

i don't understand why there is a limit at 20 class categories returned. this clips some fare categories out!

everything works fine again since the last update from this morning.

The creation of an account to be used for “screen scrapping” or other methods of automated data collection using the GetThere booking tool is strictly forbidden. Any entity that has created an account for this purpose should stop doing so immediately.

A most interesting post, Eric! While I'm sure most of us who have been following the way KVS attempts to get users to piggyback on accounts they're not authorized to be using, I'm wondering if you have any information you can give us regarding the legality of this? Of course laws vary from one jurisdiction to another, but perhaps if you're familiar with the laws in let's say the U.S., how are users there potentially legally liable for unauthorized access to your data? And also KVS itself. I know KVS has denied in the past that they directly code access to these types of accounts into their software, but based on reports of the program at times accessing websites and using credentials that were never expressly provided by the user, my guess would be that KVS, even if being technically correct, could easily be doing it indirectly. For example, if their software just did some accessing of a webpage where credential information was shown, pull up that data and store it into a file, then they'd be technically correct that their software doesn't store those credentials internally. BUT it would have a specific mechanism in the software for obtaining that and using that even without the express approval by the user of supplying those credentials. Given KVS's secrecy and avoiding answering questions directly, I wouldn't at all be surprised if they don't or haven't in the past used something similar.

Well, if the access of the GetThere data is at all illegal in certain jurisdictions, then that begs the question of the owners/moderators here on FlyerTalk as to whether the promotion of a tool that is using illegal methods and/or the owner of the tool suggesting to users to illegally access data is in violation of the terms and condition of this website.

In my view, KVS is in violation of item 2, if the accessing of this information is illegal, being they're clearly promoting their tool and methods for doing that here. For item 4, I've not seen them post directly on this website such content, but they are using this website to facilitate this.

Just an idea for anyone who's data is being misused, one might want to take a round-about approach, in addition to any direct methods being sought, to terminate their promotion of illegal and/or unethical access of data.

It's interesting to see how A_Lee is assuming how KVS works, and then quoting the terms and conditions of this website.

KVS does NOT use any credentials of its own, nor does it store any information from any website. It's merely a presentation tool, using the user's credentials to log in to the website (which the user can easily do himself), showing the same information obtained from the webpage.

The above can be verified using simple tools. Everything that KVS does, can be done with a regular browser. Using KVS takes the same amount of time as using a regular browser, (meaning that if, for example, the BA website is slow, then the BA method in KVS would be just as slow). KVS is similar to an Ad Blocker tool, that hides part of webpage when you browse it.

How does it login to GTC with the new /GA function?
