Help with Letters

Hi,

This may seem a bit off topic but............

I am a bit new to this and i was wondering what exaclty the letters is the availability mean? ie.C,E

I know:
P/F= First Class
J= 2nd Class
Y= Economy Class

but what about the others?

Thanks
Lonic

Welcome to FT. Lonic_nz
The different letters refer to different fare buckets. So on AC, for example, Y,M,U,B,H are all upgradeable with SWUs. For domestic fares, the letters translate into Freedom, Latitude, Fun, Tango, etc., with mutliple buckets in each of those categories. The fare price declines from left to right.

No more Award Availability (Sabre/AUA)

Unfortunately it seems to be that AUA has stopped the access to award availability through their site today. Until yesterday I was able to see the LH O/I/X classes, today they are gone... very sad...

Maybe LH/ AUA wants to prevent us from efficiently taking advantage of our miles?

How does the word FREEDOM become the letter YMUor B. Was there actually a word associated with each letter? If so, where can we see these links.

I'm in Germany on my way back to the US. Was just checking award availability on LH and noticed the same problem on the AUA query.

Does anyone have any actual info on this problem? Is it a temporary problem or a real issue????

If so, any suggestions on getting O/I/X availability?

FREEDOM/FUN etc. were AC's (ex) proprietary names for different types of fare. This was their "simplified" system. However, beneath that level, each of those fares contained a number of different fare buckets with different prices and slightly different rules. For the average customer it didn't make too much difference, but for the folks around here it could be important. So Freedom was synonomous with Y. Check the sticky at the top for more info.

Fare Basis Vs. Booking Class Vs. Friendly Fare Name

There appears to be some confusion between the various terms, associated with fares and bookings. To summarize:
  • Fare Basis is a 1-8 character code, e.g. "G1TGA"
    • Friendly Fare Names are used used by the AC to refer to the various fare [codes]. For example "G1TGA" is also known as "Tango"
  • Booking Class is a 1-letter code, which is always the 1st letter of the Fare Basis, e.g. "G"
  • Class of Service/Cabin Class is the physical space in the aircraft, e.g. Economy or Business

So the sequence is:
Fare Basis --> Booking Class --> Class of Service/Cabin Class

*A Award Classes

Very sad indeed.

As of a few days ago, the following *A award classes are no longer shown through the use of the AUA/*A option:
  • LH: O/I/X
  • SK: -/I/X
  • TG: O/I/X
  • RG: O/I/X
However, the following award classes are still shown:
  • OS: -/I/X
  • BD: -/I/X
  • LO: -/I/X
Given the fact that it is not just LH's classes that are no longer shown, it is likely that this was an 'initiative' of the AUA itself...

Wow, you are fast! :). The link should work -- try disabling any pop-up blockers as it will open in a new window. In any case, I will send you a PM about it very soon...
