Not sure if it's any use to anyone, but I did a dump/convert of the data at openflights.org and it seems to have a few extra airports. Not sure how good/bad the data is (and is certainly missing a couple requested in this thread).

Anyway, the file is here ... let me know how you get on.

Mile Maven

I use Mile Maven to do a similar thing, but you need to be connected to the internet to be able to use it.

Flying Fish is great to have on my laptop.

Ditto! I love having it on my laptop. I use it at many airports where WiFi is not available (I consider it not available if you have to pay for it. Ridiculous. Every airport should emulate PHX.)

I DL'd it in March, and I use it several times a week. I don't "do" videogames, but I do like my toys!

Thanks for this wonderful, efficient, accurate tool.

If you get a chance to add SJD, that'd be swell!^

If you happen to have a copy of Micro$oft Access on your computer, you can add it yourself by opening ARPT.mdb and inserting the record to the ARPT table. Some info for SJD can be found all around the web, such as here.

Some new things on the way!

Folks, please check page one and read the exciting news there. For some of us the exciting news will be an updated airport data file! For others it will be this mysterious new idea of FFE.

New file will be on the way soon, I promise...

Love Flying Fish and would love an iphone app. I would like to be an alph/beta tester. I fly about 150k/year with this year being a little exceptional w/ over 225k.

PM me if oyu need testers.

I wanted to note that the airport "MEX" is not valid and does not return a mileage result... is there some other code for Mexico City International Airport that I do not know of?

Soon to be updated

MEX is one of those pesky codes which has caused problems for a long while. It will be addressed in the airport data rollup I'm starting tonight.

New codes identified

The rollup will address the following:

FLR (Florence)
IGU (Cataratas)
SJD (Los Cabos)
PDT (Pendleton)
PSC (Pasco)
POS (Trinidad)

MEX;Licenciado Benito Juarez Intl;19.436303;-99.072097;7316 is present in the existing database but I will confirm reasonable results.

Coming soon.

Also, the first 17 requirements for FFE have been written. Remember FFE will leverage geolocation and communications, two things Flying Fish (intentionally) doesn't. Flying Fish is a tool to calculate miles on your computer without needing an Internet connection. What you will get from FFE, you will want to share with the world.

Updated the airports database

I have rolled up the codes identified above into an updated data file. Please follow the instructions on the first page of this thread to update it.

Even SJD and MEX are working!

Please post a reply if you have any sort of issues. Thanks for your patience.

How about a Blackberry version? I am sure you would get lots of beta testers.

New .dat file is much appreciated. MEX works just fine now.

+1

I've been using Flying Fish for years and since day 1 it's been firmly planted on my desktop. Getting a similar tool for my BB would be great and I would gladly alpha/beta test it.

I started using flying fish until I found Comets. Comets works better for me actually. But flying fish is great too.

Any options for Mac users yet? I travel heavily during specific times of year and I use Flying Fish daily. I'd love to have access to it on my new Mac.
