So what's new with this tool/specialized web browser? I let my subscription lapse after the FAU GTC fisacoand have not kept up since the old thread was closed
|
Karsten Nohl recently stirred the pot uncovering a number of GDS security loopholes at the CCC conference last week. This also went to the press, albeit in the quiet pre/post Xmas phase. Amadeus closed a number of scrapable web channels as a result, which is obviously not good for people who don't pay for GDS access to feed their tools, erm browsers.

Spot on @oliver2002!
Let's declare the 2017 the year of KVS Tool's death... It's long overdue... BTW, most of what Karsten says is not new - Brian Krebs was raising similar issues two years ago https://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/10/...barcode-a-lot/ |
:td:
After 10 years, probably my last subscription due to "fare basis details" and "booking rules" unavailable since too more months. Google flights is more efficiency and free. |
Thanks
I just looked at the KVS website. Seems like availability is only via their own webpage (e.g. no more asking you to create an account on a site you are not eligible for). No idea if KVS is sourcing data legitimately on their own page. The core functionality now seems to be award availability (similar to award nexus)? |

The core functionality now seems to be award availability (similar to award nexus)? I'm guessing the availability information is only shown through the KVS website to mask where the data is actually coming from, as I'd presume if the data was legitimately paid for it could be integrated into the KVS browser/tool. |

The 'Award Availability' requires you to sign up and provide login information for various frequent flyer programs that data is scraped from. The same functionality can be achieved for free by simply using the appropriate frequent flyer program websites. Not really comparable with Award Nexus.

I am not sure if others use Virtual Box, but the most recent versions seem to have bugs that may affect VMs used to run KVS. More specifically, I found that 5.1.8 and 5.0.28 both cause problems with Windows XP SP3 (e.g., network timeouts); for other versions of Windows, YMMV.
If this happens to you, you might want to downgrade back to 5.0.26, which seems to work fine for XP SP3 (and possibly others). |

The latest versions (5.0.30 and 5.1.12) have resolved these issues for my XP SP3 guest system. Again, YMMV.

Historical Data in KVS Availability Tool
Hi guys,
I need to check a couple of flights from the last three years to see if they were delayed (I have a list of the flight numbers and dates). Can I do that with KVS Availability Tool? Just wanted to check before I pay for the registration ;) Also, is there a way to automatize this in KVS Availability tools? I.e. can I check several flights at once or provide a short excel file? Thanks a lot for your help! :D |
NOPE!

Signed up for 2 months but not getting any temporary code - checked all folders, it's been 12 hours. Also tried a work email address, still nothing.

Please check your E-Mail Junk/Spam folder and/or provide an alternative contact E-Mail address. |
A new kind of error for me this morning:
"Datasource Error [R1] The site is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience. (3105)" Can't see any reference to this on the KVS site. Any ideas on whether this is something I can fix on my end? |

In the meantime, please use the [Availability] function in the KVS Tool Mobile Companion. We will update the notice on the KVS Tool Homepage once the issue is resolved. |
