I had the date wrong, but hackers are going to target facebook and take the site down on the 5th of November, apparently. Someone had said last week, that is was NEXT wednesday - today, but that appears not to be accurate. Funny that the ooma site is offline as well as is the APPLE STORE of all things. Could be just a coincidence, could be someone taking out peering providers or data centers.

One of the FB comments asked how many people died because a 911 call couldn't be placed. FWIW, this is one of the reasons I keep a separate MagicJack line in addition to my Ooma. I use the MJ number for vendors (so that any "junk" calls go only to the MJ) as well as for emergency backup to the Ooma. The MJ is only $20/year and provides virtually all of the features of Ooma, though call quality is demonstrably poorer.

Official word from Ooma

"We have experienced some technical difficulties this morning. We are working very hard to restore service. Some areas might be working sooner than others. We're very sorry for this inconvenience."

DSLreports is a very reliable site.

Some states, if not all allow(mandate) that even disconnected POTS lines allow 911 calls.
I feel bad for the suckers that are running a business off Ooma.

More word FROM Ooma

I'm not familiar with this source, but:

Concerned customers who attempted to reach out to Oomas main office were treated to a canned message stating that the office was closed, and the voice mailbox was soon filled. Rumors have begun to swirl that Ooma is in the process of shutting down, but we can confirm that this is not that case.

A few calls to the Ooma customer service line yielded a brief conversation with a rep, who states that they are aware of the problem, and that service would we be restored within two hours. Apparently, once service is restored, the Ooma hub in customers homes will begin to work again without any input from the user. Affected customers should keep their eyes peeled for the tell-tale blue light on their hubs. This timetable will likely be little comfort to those affected, some of whom use Ooma as their business phone service. Updates are coming at a blistering pace, so all you Ooma users should stay tuned.

Did you have to do anything on your end to re-start service?

Re boot modem or Ooma box?

Thanks
