Well, this is very weird.
It simply suddenly stopped working.
For months and months I had had it connected this way
Modem ---> Router ---> Ooma box (so I could manually adjust the QoS in the router)
So I switched it to Modem ---> Ooma ---> Router and all is well again.
No idea why the former configuration would stop working out of the blue.

okay, that is odd. Sounds like an ip conflict maybe, shouldn't have been an ooma FW problem, and the termination at the end of the router shouldn't be a problem.

For those that don't know yet, the Ooma app for Android is out. $9.95 in the market.
I downloaded it Thursday and put it to the test in Paris on Saturday via a wi-fi connection (Verizon Android so no over-the-air capabilities). The app itself worked fine, but Ooma garbled, then dropped the call after about 3 minutes. Was able to reconnect and complete the conversation.
Also tried it over the Verizon 3G service and it worked just fine.
In other words, it does what Skype should do on a VZ phone.
Aside from the aforementioned issue, I've encountered an Ooma "force close" issue if I try to dial out using the regular CDMA phone function. This is without the app noticably running, so apparently it has some module that runs in the background even if you haven't manually started the app.
More testing to do, and minor annoyances, but it does work.

While I really like my Ooma, my outbound caller id displays as "Ooma" no matter how many times I set and re-set my account to show outbound my name and number.

I've used the iphone app, calls are the same, free to other ooma account but cost something like 1.9 cents to other usa number. If you are a premier member, you get 250 minutes a month free from the mobile app. I didn't GET any calls, but I think the idea is the app IS GOING TO support ringing through. If you really want ring through, I would get a skype account and skypein number.

Skype was better on that trip, but has had similar issues in the past. Skype became a real hassle last trip trying to add $$$ because I've only got an AmEx card linked to the Paypal account. Paypal doesn't talk AmEx to non-US merchants... and it would have required a couple of phone calls to my card provider and Skype to try and use a Mastercard. Hassle, hassle, hassle.
Mine displays "Private Caller". But yes, same here.

hmm im debating about switching to ooma. I currently have vonage but my promo ran out so im up to $45/month with all the fees included.
I was thinking of porting my vonage number to google voice then getting the ooma and having gvoice forward to the ooma. that way if something down the road happens to ooma, i can still forward it to other numbers (plus when im back home, i can have it forward to my mobile instead of ooma)
from what I found out I need to get a att prepaid and do vonage -> att prepaid -> google voice as google voice doesnt do vonage to g voice.
what do you think? would this all work? is ooma comparable to vonage?
also whats the difference between the black and hub? which one should I get?

Is the Ooma network down for others? Phone is offline this morning and can't reach their website.

what is quite off is, their website is pretty much offline as well. I wonder if it has anything to do with the target FACEBOOK takedown today?
