Apple turned the MP3 market upside down despite all the negative outlooks on the iPod. They may turn the cell phone market as we know it now upside down as well.
AAPL trading around $96/share currently.

The cell phone market is much more established than the mp3 market was when they announced the iPod. It still is more established, for that matter.

How many people have actually watched the iPhone in action vs just reading the specs/features?
Apple has posted 2 Quicktime clips here. One is for the entire Keynote address and one has just the iPhone portion (including demo of the iPhone).
From a spec/feature perspective, the iPhone isn't all that revolutionary. But from a usability perspective (watch the Quicktime clip), it's pretty darn amazing.
I'd love to hear people's thoughts after they've watched the iPhone demo.

I don't remember ANY negative outlooks on the iPod. From the moment it was announced it was widely regarded as the best player ever made.

The best potential news is there is now a new 'benchmark' for Nokia, Samsung, SE, Motorola to strive to reach ... i think as consumers we all hope they 'catch up' and come out with some competitive phones before the end of 2008 (especially with 3G)

Agreed. I thought it was especially great when he was scrolling through the music with a flick of his finger.

I think I will be let down by the hardware though. Viewing full web pages on EDGE will be slow. The demos were using WiFi.
I'd like to see BB Connect, Skype, and SlingPlayer running on the iPhone.

Disclaimer: I am a happy Mac user. I am not, however, an Apple lemming. That said, I think the iPhone looks pretty dang cool. How could anyone not think otherwise? Like many of you, I'm on the fence until I actually get to play with one in an Apple Store and until the initial "user reports" come out...but if they're favorable. Heck, yeah! I'll extend my Cingular contract and shell out $500 bucks!
I'm not a hardcore corporate user by any stretch, but it just looks so dang fun that I'll be looking forward to late 2007 and buying one...

Maybe I'm missing something, however, my Creative Zen Vision M does exactly the same thing - then again mine is only a media player and not a phone as well

I was referring to the touch screen on the iPhone. When I saw there were no buttons, I was worried about smudging and the lack of tactile response. But when I saw him demo scrolling through music with just a flick of the finger across the screen, it looked pretty darn good -I definitely look forward to trying it myself. The fact that one can pinch and stretch images seemed like another great thing about the UI.

Just what the world needs, another $600 toy bought on credit cards with 23% interest rates. Maybe after they're done shopping for that they can go get a new negative option ARM refi on their home too.
For crying out loud...IT'S A PHONE. Anyone who pays over $100 for one needs to have their head examined.
