Still rings on my Sprint device. So, I'm stuck carrying two phones around, answering the Sprint phone and calling them back on the Verizon phone.

Those who still have mid porting problems... Did you go into a retail store or ordered via the web/central call center.

Have you called the support of your new network and asked if they can manually do the port NOW... (takes an engineer aprox 15 mins to do the port process, would then take a few hour or so to process). It seems like the mid porting problems right now are that ports haven't even started... e.g. if your old number rings either the old or new network hasn't processed ANY part of the port other than validating they can port your number.

I called Verizon again this morning and got passed on from general tech support past the automated porting information and into a special porting tech support desk. Their direct number is 866-245-9007. After about five minutes on hold, I was told that both of my numbers would be ready within five hours, or by 2pm Central.

I thought while I was on hold they might have done a manual port as NickP suggested. But, it's 3pm and still nothing.... calling my number gets my Sprint phone ringing.

I am going to give them until 5pm and then call from my landline speaker phone and then I'm going to start asking for supervisors.

Oh, and I bought my phones at Circuit City as they had the best rebates on the models I wanted, including an extra $25 gift card per phone.

I wonder how many UNPROCESSED port requests are piling up at all the networks.... Seems like nearly all of them are having to do some form of manual ports to/from certain networks

Well, it wasn't as smooth as 2pm, but my main line is working. It looks like the tech this morning did something because Sprint finally returned the first number to the third party center while I was on the phone this morning.

I called back at 5:45pm tonight and spent forty minutes on hold, and while I was on hold the first number got the text message and woke up. Now, the woman at tech support claimed that it happened on its own while she was looking for a supervisor, but I suspect that a query to the third-party system about the number might have nudged it along a little faster.

My Verizon-Sprint number porting experience is coming closer to an end. The porting finished on Saturday. For about a 5 hour period, I was able to call out on both phones, but received calls on my new phone. After the 5 hours, my Verizon phone was completely switched off. So I'm all set now. Unfortunately, my fiance didn't fare as well. We ported our numbers at the same time, signing up for a family share plan with Sprint. They had been telling us both of our phones would port the same time on Saturday. After mine completed successfully, she checked hers and it wasn't working. She called Sprint cust service and was told it wouldn't port until 12/4. They weren't able to give a reason for the delay. Her Verizon phone is still working, so it's not the end of the world.....just an inconvenience. Hopefully by 12/4 we'll be all fine.

Just signed up for T-Mobile. Couldn't have been nicer. They tell me numbers are taking 7 days to port. Bye Bye Verizon.

As consumers have been hailed as the clear winners in the rule change allowing most cellphone users to switch carriers and keep their old numbers, there is one company that is raising the ire of many subscribers: AT&T Wireless Services, the country's biggest stand-alone cellphone carrier.

All cellphone operators are having some difficulties with "number portability," which went into effect less than two weeks ago, on Nov. 24. But according to retailers, Wall Street analysts, consumer groups and officials at other wireless firms, AT&T Wireless has encountered the most problems allowing customers to switch their numbers both to and from the carrier.

To make matters worse, the Redmond, Wash., concern still hasn't completely solved technical snafus that started in early November, preventing it from activating many subscribers on a new network capable of higher-speed data transmission. Those glitches -- which for a week prevented the carrier from activating any customers at all over the new network -- have caused some outside salespeople to direct potential new subscribers to other carriers because of the complaints about AT&T Wireless.

"The highest frequency of response we're getting in our conversations with retailers and porting centers is that AT&T Wireless is having the most system problems in terms of local number portability," says Mike Rollins, a telecommunications analyst at Smith Barney, a unit of Citigroup. "Every time we talk to them, that's been a consistent feedback."

AT&T Wireless officials acknowledge that its difficulties have been worse than the industry average. A spokesman said the company so far is experiencing a portability "error rate" of "a little above 60%," compared with what he says is an industrywide average of about 50%. www.wsj.com (pay subscription site)

AT&TWS in So. Calif was created by acquiring "LA Cellular" eons ago... The current ATTWS locations are CLUELESS on everything. At least LA Cellular had a hotshot tech in each location to do rework (e.g. firmware upgrades, etc) or help with complex network or coverage issues. Everytime I went into our local location with a dead cellsite issue, it was fixed in a few hours. Walk into an ATTWS location tell them that GSM or TDMA coverage has deadspots that weren't there a day ago (e.g. a dead cell site) and they don't want to hear it... You get the standard canned speach on coverage varies... yeah; sure it does. Stand outside my house with full signal. Come back the next day , NO SIGNAL (this is outside in the SAME spot).

Anyone try

www.numberportability.com

when considering the switch?? is this any good of a site?

After being "out" of the cellphone market (kept a Free2Go instead) job+other issues have me wanting to get a standard plan (and snazzy phone). with a slew of free-after-rebate phones (or even get paid) any recommendations for quick plan comparison shopping? i'm in Northern Cal...
