I have a stupid question - I see this kind of answered on the Internet but still don't quite understand it.
iPhone with US SIM with Wifi Calling enabled + data eSIM.
Goal: not accidentally use the US SIM when overseas for either data and call/text.
I know I can turn off Data on the US SIM. However, what I don't understand is how to make the call / text portion to only stay on Wifi calling (or data via eSIM). I end up disabling the line since that would be the safest. However, that means no Wifi Calling/Testing unless I am on Wifi and disable cellular completely.
Is there a way to keep the line on and not have it going to cellular at all? I don't see an option to disable roaming for voice/text. Googling shows:

Turn Voice Roaming on or off: With CDMA networks, you can turn off Voice Roaming to avoid charges from using other carriers' networks.

For Free.fr, did you get the 1-month plan prepaid plan and then top it up subsequently, or the recurring auto-pay plan? Also, I've heard that Free.fr will cut off service if you're away from France more than some number of months 4, I think. Did you encounter that?

Advice for Canadians
On Rogers and they have extortionate pricing.
Any advice on which network to choose when travelling with this to Europe to prevent roaming? Plan to use iPhone on dual sim with an airalo eSIM (data/voice roaming off, low data settings etc) and Wi-Fi calling to be reachable?
Did I miss a setting as last time it worked but I did get charged for a few days. Is it because of Wi-Fi calling being flagged as abroad?
I would really appreciate some sort of checklist that could benefit me and any others in this situation.

Last time I saw that I emailed them. They said it would be back in stock later that day and it was. Maybe related to how many activations they can do at one time?

So do they use Vodafone in EU countries where there's a Vodafone subsidiary?
Do they get 5G if not roaming in a Vodafone network such as in Switzerland, where there isn't a Vodafone subsidiary?

I would not focus too much on 5G. While it can be faster in some occasions, you also get 200-300 Mbps on 4G in Zurich and 5G was around the same then I checked last time. Bottom line: More than enough to surf on Flyertalk.

Switzerland only has three operators, from my past experience, Vodafone roams on Swisscom.
I would not focus too much on 5G. While it can be faster in some occasions, you also get 200-300 Mbps on 4G in Zurich and 5G was around the same then I checked last time. Bottom line: More than enough to surf on Flyertalk.

Yeah that would be great. Actually on one of those links they listed Sunrise, which is also fast. But I'm looking to stream and download too.

Also, earlier in the thread, there were some free trial esims. Eg Eskimo explicitly says they use sunrise in Switzerland
Also is there anything cheaper (see sites like esimdb.com)? Eg you spend most time in Switzerland, makes sense to get a cheap 10day plan 5GB to cover UK+Germany+Italy, and a cheap bulk 30GB switzerland-only plan for the 20 days you're in Switzerland (unlikely because most EU providers will cover entire EU for their plan)

I'm travelling to the UK and France so I purchased an eSIM.net "super travel" eSIM and I have to say that it is total trash. I purchased it this past Friday and it worked perfectly fine for a few hours till I went to bed. The next morning it was completely inoperable, no calls, texts, or data. I reached out to support and it took 12 hours for them to respond. They gave me some troubleshooting tips that did not work. I emailed them back and after another 8-12 hours they're claiming that my plan was deactivated because I sent an MMS message which supposedly isn't covered by the plan. This morning data is working again but calls and texts are not. I'm just going to get an Orange Holiday eSIM and dispute the charges from eSIM.net with my credit card if they don't issue me a full refund promptly.
