Keepass is an open source thing so there are several desktop applications and mobile apps. which can open Keepass files.

They should all work.

The one I got is Mini KeePass which supports TouchID.

However, I've not transferred my passwords from 1Password to this. Suppose to be straightforward to export from 1P and import into KP but they don't offer exactly the same categories (like credit cards, award programs, bank accounts, logins).

Just out of interest how can one make sure that these "open source" versions aren't sending your details to a third party? It's not there on the iOS list of allowed programs for data?

Does anyone know if it back's up the database to iCloud in case of loss of phone/data. Technically it should back up all the app's data.

Not sure these apps use iCloud. They use Dropbox though.

Have no desire to upload database file. Probably secure if you use a good master password and certainly convenient, but manual syncing through iTunes would be fine for my purposes.

So having played around with all the apps for a while I am sticking with this one. Now in a situation where I have to reinstall my iOS. Do you know if it back's up the app's data when I run back up every night on the iPhone?

im not ios user. But if you save the kdb file from keepass and place it back after you reinstall the app on new ios, it should work.
Again, I havent tried this in IOS.

I don't think there is a way to save the kdb file on iOS.

Do you have another iOS device, like an iPad or iPod Touch? If yes, you should be able to sync both to the same iTunes installation, and if the app and password store shows up on the other device you should be good to go.

I feel I would be remiss in not pointing out that this would be a non-issue with LastPass

Also, I would be remiss to advise all your passwords stored on a cloud -- so change your master password often....

As, quite possibly, would be the KeePass vault if using Apple's Cloud for backups

You can download the Mac version of KeePass and then sync that file to the iOS device through iTunes.

I'm looking at the MiniKeyPass iOS app now and it has help instructions for iTunes Import/Export, Dropbox Import/Export, Safari/Email Import.

You are right. They must have added this on a recent update as I am sure it wasn't there before. ^

Not only that, it has TouchID support.

I'm tempted to migrate from 1 Password but 1 Password Mac version is still a lot prettier than the open source Mac version of KeyPass.
