I thought I heard that the AT&T Grandfathered International Unlimited Data Plan was raised $5/mo more now? Can anyone confirm?

I'm going to upgrade to a new phone in October and would like to hear recent experiences.

Part of the reason I'm asking is that I went through the online menus to "upgrade" last night and I wasn't even given a choice of plans to pick from...just "add to cart" and "order". Years ago, you had to select a plan and the Grandfather Plan wasn't a choice, forcing you to speak to customer care.

Any experiences?

FYI - I still maintain the Unlimited International Plan at $65 per month.

Anybody still using the grandfathered international unlimited data plan and is it still working great? Have you guys been subject to more price hikes?

Yep using it and works great. There has to my knowledge never been a price hike for the International Unlimited. Hikes only for the Domestic-only plan.

I was talking to someone on here that said that theirs was raised to $69.99/mo. Is yours still 64.99/mo?

Well by gosh I stand corrected. Mine has been $69.99 for so long I'd forgotten it was ever different. But yep, digging through old statements, it appears the Unlimited International was $64.99 until the May 2018 statement when it increased to $69.99. Still an outstanding product and value. Yes, I wish they'd lighten up on things like Personal Hotspot, but I know that'll never happen on this plan. So I'm good.

No problem! By any chance did anyone actually not get an increase? I guess most of you guys aren't active anymore though . Also, does anyone still have the Unlimited International Data for Blackberry (standalone)?

Just curious. Where would anyone else go? Where else can you get Unlimited LTE worldwide for that price? I travel worldwide about a third of the year, but my employer does not pay for communications or data. Where could anyone do better?

I have moved to Google Fi and got the unlimited plan (22GB). Hate not having Visual Voicemail but love to be able to use HotSpot

There isn't many other options I just meant people in general stopped becoming active on the forums or for some reason stopped traveling a bunch and canceled the plan. The only option in recent memory was T-Mobile Global Plus when it was unlimited data, but they grandfathered that and changed it to 15 gb. It also included unlimited talk when you call from one of the 210+ roaming countries t-mobile supports to another person who is also in one of those 210+ countries. T-mobile Global Plus is much more restrictive than the AT&T Worldwide Unlimited in the sense that t-mobile can suspend or terminate you if you use over 50% for two billing cycles in a 12 month period. There use to be the Verizon Global Unlimited Data plan but I think only major businesses still have it.

Hey gang-

Has anyone here with the grandfathered ATT Unlimited International plan moved their sim to a new 5G capable iPhone 12? And if so, are you getting 5G service? (I don't mean the pseudo 5Ge but the real mmWave 5G). I'm concerned since several coworkers who have bought iPhone 12 had to swap their ATT sims for new 5G capable sims AND had to sign up for new plans. This could be bad news for those of us on the grandfathered unlimited World.

Thanks!

Yeah, I was on that T-Mobile Global Plus Unlimited briefly. They really pissed me off one month when I barely used any data. I think one time I was at ~ 100mb domestic and ~110mb in London for a pay cycle. I got a nastygram from T-Mo threatening to cut me off for the service I was paying $70/month + $50/month for. Their "abuse" calculation is just a simple ratio of data consumed domestic vs data consumed international. I found out later people get around this issue by just streaming tons of useless data when back home to goose the ratio. While I get this for their "free" roaming, the people paying $50/month for 15GB-Unlimited (depending on when you signed up) should really be given a bit of leeway. Google FI uses a much better mechanism where they monitor how much TIME you spend abroad. On FI you only run into trouble if you spend ~3-6months abroad without returning to the US and hitting a US cell tower. For someone like me that travels at least 1 week a month, I never had an issue on FI.

Not an AT&T customer, but you should expect that to happen (meaning be prepared for it). I was on the Verizon global unlimited plan for a number of years using my blackberry and first iPhone. Then they did the same thing. “oh, you bought a new iPhone? Sorry, that means you will have to have anew SIM and, sorry, no unlimited global data for you”.

Well, so far I've had three iPhones with the same ATT sim with my grandfathered Unlimited International LTE plan. iPhone 5S, iPhone 8, and my current iPhone Xs. It was all seamless- swap sims and voila- done. If there is any glitch moving to a 5G iPhone 12, then it will be the first time there was any issue. Fingers crossed. So far have not heard from anyone who made this move with my plan, so hoping to get some first hand reports.

Yeah T-Mobile's practice sounds like you basically have to abuse data domestically to get past the international roaming calculation... I assume you have to do the same for voice if you want to make international roaming calls without the nastygram.

I think Verizon went as far as audit personal accounts that still had Unlimited Global Data and removed the feature automatically so they were pretty much hell bent on anyone keeping it .

Keep us posted, does the picture of your 5G iPhone 12 show up on your AT&T account? Or is it your previous device?

I wonder if anyone here still has the Worldwide Unlimited standalone Blackberry, I heard there was an LTE variant for personal but I've only had it for a company line before.

Will do. I don't have the iPhone 12 yet- was planning to ask wife for it for Christmas. Just trying to find out if I should expect a nasty surprise. I could live with just LTE and not 5G. But giving up the International Unlimited would probably be cause for me to finally leave ATT.

I'll keep everyone posted and hopefully we hear soon from a fellow grandfathered International Unlimited with the new iPhone 12. Seems like there aren't many of us left.
