In Europe where T-Mobile has a presence I assume it is included, but what about countries in Africa, Asia and South America? I'd really like to hear some first hand experience about the availability and costs of services in those regions before I switch over.

You can find information on the T-Mobile site here.

Thanks for the tip, didn't know that, I figured you could call T-Mobile, didn't know that it would be free.

A few years ago, I had to dial back to the State to fix an issue with a Credit Card, it said that there is a collect number to call outside the USA, but I could never figure out how to call collect from outside the USA (let alone in the USA anymore) and just called back to the Credit Card company from my cell phone.

The Credit Card company said that I could send in a copy of my cell bill and they would credit my account for the cost of the call which I thought was pretty fare.

You have to look up the AT&T operator assistance number for the country you're in, which is generally a toll free call within that country. You'll be patched through to an AT&T operator in the US who can help you do the collect call.

As for T-mobile, the international customer care number is 1-505-998-3793.

I'm on a cruise ship, and am seeing this carrier when we are far from land: "Maritime Communications Partner AS 3G". Does anyone have any information about it? Is there a way I can block connecting to it, if it's not free on T-Mo Simple Choice plan? I'm on an iPad. Thank you.

That is the at sea satellite communications. Very very expensive. I doubt it would be complementary with T-Mo.

What's this number to dial T-Mobile for free when calling from overseas?

Exactly. The CSR can put a note into your record authorizing any T-Mobile store you visit to give you a SIM card for free (basically waiving the $15 service fee). I've had to go this route three times; each time was quick and painless with no questions asked.

Thanks.

That's exactly what happened. A 45-minute wait at the store though. TMO also gave me credit for the days with NO Service.

The SIM card from the UPS Ground finally arrived 2 days after the store visit. Now what do I do with this card? Treat it as a spare?

The easiest way is to use the AT&T USA Direct service. Refer to this site to get a local access number for each country:

http://www.att.com/esupport/traveler...sCodeModal.jsp

From your hotel phone or a payphone, you call the number listed above for whatever country you're in, which is usually a toll free number or at least a local number. Then, you're connected directly to an AT&T operator in the US, bypassing whatever the local phone company is. You then request from her to place a collect call to the US-based non-toll-free number published by your credit card company for such purposes (hopefully, it's printed on the back of your credit card). In most cases, the operator doesn't' even need to stay on the line to verify acceptance of the collect call, as the phone number printed on the back of most credit cards is already on file for automatic acceptance of collect calls. Actually, the whole process may be automated, such that you never need to talk to an actual AT&T operator.

Anyone have recent experience in Turkey? The coverage map only shows 2G data, so I'm assuming it's essentially unusable.

luxtrvlwrks Sep 14, 2015 4:16 pm

My apologies if this has already been covered. I did a search, but didn't find anything.

The FAQ implies that there is some sort of a duration limit to the unlimited calls and texts. Any idea on the definition of "extended" international stay?

How long can I stay in Mexico or Canada and expect service?
T-Mobile plans are designed for domestic use in the U.S. The plan is not intended for extended international stays. Please see your terms and conditions for more details.

Also interested in this. Will be in Turkey in a few weeks.
