I've used the data pass in countries where I'm nowhere near a place where I can pick up a SIM card.
It really depends on which carriers you're roaming on and what kind of agreement they have with T-Mobile. Some carriers will work fine, others may deprioritize the off-network SIM, so even though you may get full speeds, it may not be sustained. |
Got the datapass a few days after arriving in Spain. TMO datapass signup page does have a date+time selection if you want to schedule it in advance.
My 1GB lasted for 5 days, then I spent another $20 on a second datapass for the rest of our trip. I also tested the Vodafone and Orange prepaid SIMs, both worked great. I'm going to continue testing the Vodafone, because it roams back in the USA also, using ATT. |
I'm currently on my first trip to India since switching from FI. The T-Mo Data pass works just as well here (albeit costing twice as much as FI).... but so far I'm reasonably happy. If they could bring the data-pass cost down to $10/GB I'd be 100% on board.

Anyone else hear about the new Canada/Mexico limit of 5gig/month of LTE data?

Apparently you can go to the next plan up and still have unlimited LTE, which makes me think they're trying to get more money out of every subscriber.

Had great Fi service in Thailand for 2 weeks. North to south. LTE where available. BTW is there a Fi thread?

Vietnam? - free calls on wifi?
Vietnam is no longer on their free roaming countries and I've received a different answer every time I ask one of their "customer service" agents so
has anyone made wifi calls in Vietnam back to the USA - were they free or were you charged? No speculation please just personal experiences b/c I've been told everything from it's free to $6 a minute just like a roaming call - and everything inbetween. |
Wifi calls on supported phones, or Digits calls via wifi data, are free to US numbers.
If using regular wifi calling (on supported phones) just be careful that it IS actually in wifi calling mode, as otherwise it will get charged as a regular phone call. I've had a couple of charged calls because incoming calls came through via roaming when I thought wifi calling was on (luckily in 20c/minute countries.) Digits will work with the phone part off and wifi on (or on a non-phone device like a tablet), and is safer for that although I've found the audio quality isn't generally as good. The free data roaming doesn't apply to voice calls anywhere, although the flat voice roaming rate is not bad compared to older phone plans I've had. |

There was another report here of someone calling a non-US number from a non-20¢/minute location and getting the full roaming charge, even though the call was a WiFi call. Calling back to a US number over WiFi shouldn't be an issue. |

I know this BUT I've had tmo reps tell me I will be charged for wifi calls from Vietnam to the US b/c it is not a roaming country even though the written stuff doesn't make a difference between roaming and non. So if anybody has actually been in Vietnam and made wifi calls please let me know. |

Anyone switched to sprint?
There is a thread about sprint free roaming but it only has 4 replies:(
Apparently sprint now has a plan that sounds like tmo free roaming BUT it includes more countries than tmo does Anyone here use it? |
