Did I misinterpret something I think I read recently? As of 15 July on t mobile I think I read there are no roaming charges in Canada and Mexico. Calls to and from these countries are treated as if they are domestic and if you have unlimited talk, they are free both to make to and receive in? Is that correct?

That's right.

As to the blocking recc There is no profile option on my phone on my tmobile and I can't find any equivalent?

I have an android (LG flex)

I don't think this is device specific.

Log in to my t-mobile
Select Profile
Select Blocking
Choose block charged roaming.

I believe there is a $10 monthly fee and you need to call them to sign up. Check further in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...l#post25115517

There is also a similar phenomenon in the Netherlands - if you sign up for an international calling plan, your calls to the US are much cheaper than within the country.

I think this is a way to compete with MVNOs such as Lebara and Lycamobile - which at least initially aimed at various immigrant communities, and also offered international calls cheaper than in-country calls.

Of course, if it's worth the trouble - you make the international call to a calling card or Localphone platform in the other country, then call back to the country you are in (e.g., you are in the UK - you use your O2 SIM to call a Localphone access number in France for 2p, and then Localphone will charge you 1 cent US to a UK landline and 2.3 cents US to UK mobiles. I believe the Localphone access numbers can be programmed to recognize your caller ID so you would not need to enter in a credit card number.)

I found this interesting. I arrived in London and used an O2 UK sim card with its foreign plan which allows calls from the UK to the USA for 2p/minute which is really hard to beat along with the usual free reception of calls. Also when I left the UK for my cruise, I was subject to eu roaming rates which are at historic lows and will disappear altogether next year apparently. However outside the UK, calls to the USA and other places outside the eu are astronomically high.

But I also have the t mobile simple choice plan...20¢/minute to make and receive calls and my heaviest data usage was in hotels which almost always had wifi so it really didn't matter whether I used t mobile USA or O2 while in London hotels and many of the restaurants I frequent also have wifi. All well and good. But what I found most ludicrous about the whole thing. When I called within the UK while in the UK on the O2 sim card it was 40p/minute...calls to the same number in the UK on the T Mobile sim were 20¢/minute.

It looks like it's going to be t mobile all the way for my 3 or 4 trips to Europe each year.

Looked at their web site again. Doesn't seem to indicate any additional charge for calls to and from Canada, Mexico and the USA

Mobile data SIM in iPhone 6

Is it possible to use the mobile data plan in an iPhone if I only need data and texts? I would use this in Europe. Does the $20/month charge begin at the same time the new SIM is mailed to me or do they wait until the SIM is first inserted in the phone and used in the USA?

The website: http://explore.t-mobile.com/3countryplan, and of course the fine print:
Already a customer? Upgrade your plan or add a $10 feature to include Mexico and Canada

Then navigate to the link and continue with the conditions, etc. That is why I suggested to call, it's a little more complicated and depends on your existing plan.

My interpretation I think thotugh is correct. Since I'm on simple choice with the unlimited domestic talk, domestic data and reduced rate calling in 128 countries, I automatically get Canada and Mexico. If I were on some other plan which did not include these, I am being told I can upgrade the plan to simple choice or pay $10/month to include Canada and Mexico.

At least that's the way I interpret it.

Your interpretation was incorrect in my case as it was not automatic. I'm also on Simple Choice and after I received the notification that Canada and Mexico were included I was charged for calls made from YVR to the USA. I had to call T-Mobile to get the charges reversed. The T-Mobile rep told me that to avail of the free service I had to call and have the North America service enabled on my Simple Choice plan.

Most existing customers (prior to inclusion of Mexico/Canada) not on some special promo can change their plan to include Canada/Mexico for free, but do need to go online or call to change the plan. New customers automatically get Canada/Mexico. Existing customers on special promos may need to pay an extra $10 per month to get Canada/Mexico.

I've had one or two T-Mobile agents get confused trying to explain this to me. I really like my current Simple Choice and view T-Mobile positively, yet I'm still afraid there's some kind of "catch" if I make this change. The first agent I spoke to (some weeks ago) ended up adding the $10 monthly fee to my bill and the second took it off.

I guess I'm made suspicious by having to "change the plan" and wondering why it just doesn't happen automatically.

Any fact-based reassurances for my paranoia? ;)

What is Pricing/How to Buy High Speed International Data?

I see here:

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-7261

that Tmobile sells high-speed data passes for roaming. However, I can't find the pricing for this anywhere - anyone know where the pricing can be found?

I just had the standard Simple Choice with no special features or discounts. I went online and changed the plan to Simple Choice North America. It very clearly showed no change in monthly bill and the same features I have now (plus Mex/Can).

I think the reason it doesn't happen automatically is that it is a new plan--Simple Choice North America. It just happens to be the same price for those on standard rates. T-Mobile wasn't willing to throw it in for free for those on cheaper rates, so they didn't add it to the old Simple Choice.

Thanks. That leads me to one more question. How old is the old Simple Choice? I signed up for T-Mobile almost two years ago. My basic monthly fee is $70.
