My apologies if this has already been covered. I did a search, but didn't find anything.
The FAQ implies that there is some sort of a duration limit to the unlimited calls and texts. Any idea on the definition of "extended" international stay? How long can I stay in Mexico or Canada and expect service? T-Mobile plans are designed for domestic use in the U.S. The plan is not intended for extended international stays. Please see your terms and conditions for more details. before Christmas and a full two and half months starting Dec31. Never received any notices from T-Mobile. I was also in Japan/Thailand for 5 weeks before that and no issues. I don't consider myself a heavy user...checking emails, read news, forums, etc. While in Mexico, about an hour a week for calls(20cent/min) under the old plan. |

It's definitely a YMMV situation. If your primary use is domestic but you take periodic extended visits internationally, there's no issue. I travel to Asia for 2-3 weeks, 3-4 times a year and also did a 3 week vacation in Europe....never a problem. Where you might get in trouble is if the majority of the time is spent abroad.....but even there, it's YMMV. My second son, on our family plan spent the last 8 months in Peru and used TMO as his primary data/text line. During that same time frame the Mrs. had two trips to Asia where she was gone 30 days each, and I had 2 trips for 3 weeks each. And our other son went to Japan for 2 weeks in same time frame. Caveat....our family plan is over 10+ yrs old. |
Was in Istanbul in July.
My teenage son had the Tmobile SIM, I had an Irish SIM in my phone so my report is second hand. He was able to easily send email, and he also did Skype instant messaging and Google Hangouts messaging and sent photos via Skype. Maps worked also, I don't think he did anything more ambitious.

My wife had my T-Mobile Sim in her iPad in France. She got her mail and push notifications, but told me that she couldn't even do basic web surfing on it. While I was there, I never had a chance to use her iPad to check it out.
Tomorrow, I OS 9 is going to be released. I am thinking out loud here, but I'm wondering whether iOS is low-power mode might be the ticket. By stopping data access to all background apps , I'm wondering whether you can stretch the 128K to tolerable limits. |
Does a tablet use more data than a phone? Larger screen, so perhaps the browser downloads more data?

Just a quick update from South Korea, T-MO USA global roaming data working fine on both Androids 5.1.1 and iOS 8.4 on iPhone 5s and 6s ... no issues with Facetime, Talkatone or Facebook uploads at basically 3G speed, but just experience slowdown at slower 2/2.5G speed due to congestions.
iPad Mini's FDFL plan isn't working (as expected & per TOC) but at the Novotel Ambassador here in Seoul, getting blazing turbo internet speed 75MB up/down-loads over hard-wired ethernet in-room. We're up at the 38th Parallel this morning & doing just fine with SK Telecom coverage on both data & voice - just like coverage along the Eastern coast of SK (all with no extra charges) Slightly off-topic: voice calls over WiFi & billed at 4 cents per minute worked on the prepaid line (not to be confused with global data roaming for free on lines with postpaid coverage) |

I've had my T-Mobile sim for nearly a year now. I use Cricket when I'm at home in the USA and never use my T-Mobile service. I've used it out of the USA for probably 7 out of the last 10 months, including 2 months at a stretch, and have not had any issues. |

Surprised they didn't have Monaco before.
Maybe you get reception from French carriers nearby? No Andorra either? |
