I thought t-mobile treats GCI as native in terms of roaming?

I was under the impression that that was the case too. I believe it may have been, but I haven't been anywhere except on a T-Mobile network domestically since 2014 until my brief stopover in ANC the other week.

It looks like T-Mobile roaming is expanding to over 210 locations, up from about 150 currently, on July 22nd. Calling rates will increase from 20¢ to 25¢ per minute. The T-Mobile support document is here. The new included locations are as follows:

Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Fiji, French Polynesia, Gabon, Gambia, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mayotte, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nauru, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Papua New Guinea, Reunion, Rwanda, Samoa, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Western Sahara, Zimbabwe

What's interesting is that Austria doesn't appear on the new list, but I imagine this is an oversight. Andorra doesn't appear on the current or new lists, but it's an included country as well as referenced in previous posts. Saipan is another location that is included if one does a manual check, but it doesn't appear on the current list.

Now if we could just get some options for > 256k international data, we'd be doing good (I mean a regular plan option, not the add on data passes)

^ We've been caught out both in the Maldives and Morocco so this is good news. We use Skype to make calls so the new calling charge will barely affect us.

Mrs. Majuki and I are headed to the Maldives for the first time next month, so the timing is perfect. As far as the calling charges, I don't mind the 5¢ increase, at least for my use cases. I have only placed phone calls overseas for things like coordinating with a driver pickup at the airport or confirming a dinner/event booking. I've spent under $5 since T-Mobile began the benefit in November 2013. For calls back home I will wait until I'm somewhere with a WiFi connection.

Just following up on my earlier question on Alaska coverage. It was great! The only glitch I had was the need to reboot my phone when I landed in Alaska to get service, but I've found this to be good practice when switching countries. A native on the plane with me who uses GCI also said he always reboots his phone when going to/from the Lower 48.

All of my data/voice on GCI was treated just as if I were on T-Mobile in the Lower 48. No issues at all. Worked better than my coworker's Verizon phone up there.

Yes, I am aware of that, I am wondering if anyone has any recent experience. Which networks to use/not use, how well it worked, did it connect automatically or have to edit any APNs...etc...
Many countries are listed in the wiki for this, but Bulgaria is not.

Been my experience too (Pixel 2XL) and in fact the wife's Verizon phone (Pixel 2XL) was at time almost unusable while my T-Mobile phone was humming along, she kept asking can you hear me now.

Question for this group: my folks are going to Iceland for a few days and are worried that their TMo One Plus plan will be sufficient for Google Maps. Does anyone have experience with this?

It will be okay IF they download offline maps for Iceland in advance via the app.

My experience last August was just like any US T Mo account. 2G and be patient. Agree with downloading the Golden circle map, but you should be able to get email and maps updates including uploading pictures. I will refrain from uploading some of mine.

Did TMobile just get rid of the other on-demand data passes in lieu of the 24 hour GlobalPass option for up to 512MB of data? I only see that option now, instead of the previous $20 for 1GB of data.
