I'm fine activating and paying for that, but I'd like it to be easy.

My plan is to wait till iOS 12.1 comes out.... then move my T-Mo number to my e-sim... and use my Project FI as my second sim. When roaming I'll have the ease and speed of FI. When in the US, I'll have the unlimited data etc from T-Mo.

I have the opposite on my Pixel 2 - Project Fi on the e-sim, T-mobile on the physical SIM.

Frankly, would it matter either way? I assume both have full capabilities.

I like the idea of T-Mobile plus Project Fi also. I gotta figure out who has a phone I can activate it on . . .

I guess you need to have either a Pixel Phone for FI on the e-sim... or any dual sim phone that supports the bands you need. In my case, an iPhone XS Max

One Plus Welcome Message is now Less Ambiguous

I have the One Plus promotional plan. Up until my last international trip last month, I would always get the following welcome message:

"Welcome to United Kingdom! ! T-Mobile ONE Plus gives you unlimited data at 2X the speeds of our T-Mobile One plan, up to 256kbps, calls at 20 cents/min, and free texts. Learn about Roaming here http://t-mo.co/intlroam"

Always made me a bit nervous that it was a promotional message for the One Plus and somehow they had not turned on the faster speed for my line (even though my speeds seemed about right.)

On my last trip in September, the message had changed and is now clearer:

Welcome to United Kingdom! Your T-Mobile ONE Plus feature gives you data at 2X the speeds of our T-Mobile ONE plan, up to 256kbps, unlimited texts, and calls at 25 cents/min. Visit t-mo.co/intl-plus1 to learn more and view additional data options. Enjoy your stay!

I'm always amazed at how much actually gets done at these slow speeds - e.g., Whatsapp voice calls are flawless.

Good to know. ^ I recently got a similarly ambiguous message on a day trip into Canada and called T-Mobile to make sure we hadn't gotten bumped off our plan.

Maybe enough subscribers called to cause them to clarify their wording.

Voice calls really don't require that much data. I remember well the days of 128kb ISDN with two b:)nded channels. One could move a lot of data over that (because software wasn't so bloated).

Allegedly T-Mobile will be releasing a new "Global Plus" International plan tomorrow. An additional $50/ month for unlimited LTE data roaming

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...48071edf16.jpg

Read more about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/com...coming_on_the/

If this is true, I'll definitely be signing up tomorrow. Originally my plan was to get my T-mobile plan moved to my e-sim then just use my Project FI data-only sim in my sim slot... but this plan is potentially even better for me. Looking forward to it.

5 GB of tethering is weak.

and you have to be able to turn it on and off.

still better off getting a local SIM if using a lot of data.

A few things to remember:
  • If you want to use this for 10 days and that 10 days stretches over two billing periods, you will have to pay for 2 full months.
  • It doesn't say you can call back to the US for free.
  • You will probably lose the ability to revert back to any grandfathered promotional plan. So, e.g., if you have the One Plus promotional plan that gives you 256K data for free, you will likely not be able to revert to that once you try out this plan.

  • Using this for 10 days only really isn't my usecase. I travel enough to where it make sense to just leave this on all the time.
  • It DOES say you can call back to the US for free. "Unlimited Simple Global to Simple Global calling at $0.00 per minute." Dollars to doughnuts you'll have free calls to the US.
  • Don't care about grandfathering... If I revert, I'd revert to vanilla T-Mo One on my eSim + Project FI Data only Sim in the sim slot.

You may be correct that calls back to the US are free - seems logical that they would be. However, the US is not a simple global country (if it was we'd have slow data in the US), so calls back to the US are not in the category of simple global to simple global.

You are correct. My guess this is just poor wording.

The 5GB tethering limit is annoying, but even still @ my current project FI rates it would cost me the same for the same amount of data... so I'm still super excited for this. Comes @ perfect time as I'm about to head off to London on the 10th.

Dubai Stu Nov 9, 2018 7:34 am

Now I am struggling about giving up my ATT grandfathered unlimited international plan. My big concern is that I don't think TMobile has coverage in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. (I live in lower Michigan -- moved home from Dubai years ago but didn't give up the "handle"). Just bought an Apple XS for the dual SIM capability. Had I known, I would have bought a Pixel 3 and kept Fi on ESIM slot 2 as a backup.

Finally

Finally got consumer global plus activated on my account. Sitting in the Marriott west India quay at canary wharf in London I’m getting 114mbps down and 9.49 up. I’m a happy camper. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...545be4bd7e.png
At Marriott canary wharf.
