Good little charger + battery
http://www.tylt.com/energi-2k-tc/
It weighs about 100gm (just under 3oz) and combines a 2200mAh battery + a 1A charger. It prioritizes the device ahead of the battery, so it's great for overnight usage - in a few hours, both items are fully charged. It won't quite put a full charge back on my Galaxy S4, but as a top up into the 60-70% range towards the end of the day it's great. One warning - there's no sign whether the device is being powered from the AC or charging the phone from stored power. So last week I plugged everything in and then flipped off the hotel room light switch, not realizing the power strip was controlled by it (boo Marriott)... woke to a dead battery on the Tylt and just a 60% charge on the phone. But realistically, that one is my fault: I missed that the orange light on the power strip went out. |

This one outputs 3A, which is enough to charge your iPad:

Just ordered an Anker 6400mah stick for my fiance. So far the Anker devices receive very good critics and if it's turning out to be a good product I'll be getting a monster for my tablet and phone.

I just got my Anker based on ScottC suggestion, slightly heavier than anticipated. Tested with iPad Air and 5s and works really well.
Anker Astro E4 13,000mAh Portable USB Battery Charger for $26 I'll take the plunge and get myself the Astro gen2 for the next trip. that should charge my iPad and phone at least 3 times. Enough to keep me going. |

I checked youtube and found that many people who usually use the batteries for a year nonstop haven't noticed any degradation whatsoever.

I have older version that is 2 yrs old and still working. Unfortunately doesn't have sensor to turn off after full charge of device and also won't handle my iPad 3!

Why's that? Is the required output not high enough? This would be a bummer if that meant you need to upgrade your USB battery every two years.

I don't know much electrical engineering stuff...
Does anyone know what voltage a charger for a Nexus 7 runs at? I know it's a bit higher than a normal USB charger. I'm looking for some sort of USB battery that could charge either my iPhone or my N7 (with the appropriate usb cable) |
I'm on my first trip with the Anker and not sure how I lived without it. It is awesome not having to move the hotel room furniture to get to an outlet to charge my phone and power my bluetooth speaker over night (can't sleep without music on, so I stream). Even better that I don't end up with 3" of cable slack since the outlet is so far away. Also nice to be in a meeting 20' from an outlet and realize that my phones need charging and just pull out the battery instead of the laptop for a long enough cord to AC to slowly charge on USB. Very happy so far. After three days it is still showing 3/4 full.

Hmm will give it a try. got the Astro Pro Gen2 and the Anker 6400maH version which will go into my fiancees pocket. the astro Pro 2 is a beast! Feels quite sturdy and came 74% precharged. Recharging to 100% only took a few minutes and so far has been pushing through my iPod and Nexus 5. Seems to be a piece of cake.
Very fresh experience. Will try my iPad tonight and see if it works. |

Anything that uses USB is 5 volts. It is the current (amperage) that varies. In general smaller devices (phones) can rapid charge with 1 amp or slow charge with 0.5 amps. Larger devices will need more current and will look for 1-2 amps. Take a look at the charger that came with your tablet. I'm guessing it will provide two amps. The Anker I bought can handle up to 3A, so it should be good for any tablet. I have charged my iPhone 5 and Nexus 5 phones simultaneously with it. I'm pretty sure it could handle a phone and the tablet at the same time also. Thanks for the clarification This is the one you ordered right?: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQ5KHJW Did you have to also order an AC adapter to charge it? If I'm reading correctly it doesn't come with one. I have a Nexus 7 which uses MicroUSB but it only would charge at 1.35 amps... debating whether it's worth the extra $20 to buy a 3.5 amp charger |
