In the last few days I've seen dozens of battery packs for sale in discount stores: TJ Maxx, Ross and Marshall's have lipstick adapters (2200 mAh) for $7.99, Steinmart has a 5200 mAh for $9.98, etc. Would I be wasting my money buying a couple of these? What distinguishes a $30 dollar battery pack from a $10 one?

I'm not sure of the power of it, but when I'm on the road, I NEVER leave home without my Mophie power charger. It's saved me countless times before.
|
Pretty much all of the lipstick size adapters and many of the thicker rectangular adapters are using 2, 3, or 4 18650 size 3.7v cells (the same kind used in many laptop batteries, more advanced personal vaporizers, etc). If you have the cells laying around you can actually buy the empty power-packs for $2-$7 on eBay. I just bought my wife and I some 2-cell packs for $3 each and I'll fill them with some Samsung 2800 mAh cells I bought that can't quite put out enough current necessary for sub-ohm vaping, but will do just fine charging phones and tablets (capable of 5A continuous output)... that is, in a few weeks when they make if off the slow boat from China.

Had my Jackery bar confiscated in Beijing.
First time it happened, but I wasnt equipped to argue with some securities agent in mandarin.... |
We have a Jackery and have read in other places that it is being confiscated more often lately. One of the reports identified the problem as there is no outside labeling.
We had been planning on carrying it next month on a trip to Mexico but are not sure now. We haven't had any trouble before, have the regulations been changed? Do we take it or leave it home? |
I don't see why any of these USB Power Packs, or the Jackery Bar in particular, would be confiscated... what is the justification?
|
I always carry the Mophie Powerstation with me, and I travel to China a lot. No problems.

Coming back to the US from Munich, had no issues with the German security scan at Terminal 2. When I went through the secondary screening (this time with the full nud-o-scope and take things out of the bag...), I had to turn on the iPad, the phones, and they wanted to see the Jackery. I had it fully charged, and double-tapped the button to turn on the LEDs as well as the flashlight function, and the rep was happy.
Interesting with the secondary screening (no issue taking the yogurt or water through, though) - didn't have to do it coming back through Frankfurt in September - something new or something in Munich? J |
i cant go in any place with out my Galaxy S4, with extra battery not to be off from communication and a wall folding charger.

Xioami have just released a 5 cell 16000mAh power bank.

Can these devices be used on P&S cameras
Late to the party. Skipped through couple of pages. Look interesting.
My nagging problem is my Nikon Coolpix P&S. I carry 9 batteries (seriously) but they don't last. Can any of these devices be compatible? Recommendations? Thanks. |

As long as the camera has a USB charging cord, yes - it will charge it just fine. I'd recommend my personal favorite pack, the Anker 13,000.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...HUJG3VTLR5A3YC The link is very helpful with the video review ^ I will get either the Astro E5 or E4. Thanks for the recommendation. |
Thanks for the recommendations. I just ordered the Anker 16000A battery pack. Got good reviews and is a steal for $40.
