Just a tip if your TP battery fully dies and refuses to come on, push down the power AND the 'home' button for FORTY FIVE seconds, or until the logo comes up and on.

This is only the Alpha release. As I've said, I'm in no hurry to install this.

I'm actually hoping that Chroid eventually has a stable version released. That seems to be more up my alley.

I feel like Moses has descended from Mt. Sinai with the Ten Commandments! :) I'll wait for at least a beta release. Right now, my Touchpad does everything that I need it to do, with the exception of supporting Zinio. I'll wait for something more stable.

FYI, Zinio has submitted a TouchPad version, and it's is currently going through the vetting process to be included in the HP Apps Catalog. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Here is a more directly link to the CM7 download with instructions.

The "Lower Your Expectations" Release :D

I've been running an alpha release on my thunderbolt of CM7 for quite a while and everything runs pretty smooth. I've been waiting for android on the touchpad like everyone else, I am going to wait on this release though...

I know, but it's not out yet. I bought an Android phone two weeks ago (a Motorola Droid Bionic) and absolutely love the plethora of applications available for it. Oh, and another key app missing from WebOS, but available on the Droid: Slingplayer.

so I got bored and installed CM7 on my touchpad...the install was a breeze...there are bugs, one big one for me is when I plug my headphones in to watch/listen to something the external speakers do not mute, so on flights that's an issue. Thankfully dual-booting is a breeze

Great news!

Have you installed this on 16GB or 32GB?

Also, how does that dual booting works?

32GB but it only partitions out 2gb for the install, the dual booting is odd you can restart and hold the volume down button to boot into either webos or CM7, when I choose to restart from CM7 to webos it shuts down and I have to just restart it not a huge deal

What do you use to encode?

How large is each movie file? (Like a 90-minute movie.)

I meant to follow up to this.

Examples:

Crazy Heart, encoded from a ripped DVD: 404,241 KB

Avatar, extended edition (3 hours), encoded from a ripped BluRay: 4,169,041 KB (4.2 gigabytes)

Avatar, by the way, looks terrific on the Touchpad.

Kalemsoft also streams video very nicely. I've only used it in my house over WiFi, but it requires only a small server program on the host machine.

That sounds good. Should I wait for beta or jump for alpha:confused: Can I install beta after installing alpha version?

Braindrain Oct 17, 2011 1:01 pm

Whether you install the alpha version is up to you.

Installing Android ROMs over one another is not an issue.

From what I've read, it's possible that the alpha version may have to be installed before the betas. To be perfectly honest, if you have to ask, you're probably better off waiting for the beta version. The alpha version is more proof-of-concept than anything, and intended for people who are very familiar with rooting, and other hacking concepts.

It was probably one of the easier installs I've done, but I've rooted countless phones before this, and work in the IT field, so I was fairly confident. With that being said, if you can follow directions, it isn't difficult.
