Would this be worth it for the tier miles?

Last devaluation announcement, which later was cancelled, someone at TG lost their job. Let’s see how this one will go, but after hearing how long this was internally planned, I believe this change is here to stay. Fortunately, I only have enough miles left for two roundtrips in I to Europe then all credits will go to UA. The *A redemption in premium classss was previously so horrible, but the new one that requires 360,000 miles to North America in I (roundtrip) and 180,000 miles for Europe on TG own metal makes it extremely painful to hang onto the program.

Not to mention that all these increases don’t even come with any reduction in their outraged fuel and tax surcharges on award redemption.

But J is still 125%, C & D are 150%.
With Platinum addition of 20% I now get 20% more miles but the award I normally book is +35%
In C I think I would get 44% more miles.
I just booked what I thought was full fare business LHR - BKK ret and the class is J. There is no C class fare shown on-line even after October.

Well, it was good (for me) while it lasted. Happy to have booked flights AKL-BKK-ZRH return in Aug/Sep; GUP for me and burned 85,000 miles for Mrs TK on 50% biz award.

Looks like I’ll need to become a thrifty flier in my retirement years (not just yet mind you!!)

With this new rate I guess I got to start moving to another programme, ROP used to be one of my favourite since I am base in BKK. Unfortunately this year trips have already been arranged, so no space to burn miles for now. Have spent 260k miles for 2 tickets BKK-MXP in December and still have 300K left, plus 350K coming by the end of this year, every miles need to be gone by October. It was good while it lasted indeed :/

Years ago miles were earned by flying with little credit card bonuses. Back in the early 1990s you could get two first class tickets from US to Asia for 170,000 miles on some airlines. US to Europe on Concorde round trip 125,000 miles. Glad we booked two first class tickets to Asia from US last month leaving only about 1000 miles in each of our accounts.

For a leisure traveller such as myself, mainly in Y, the changes are a terrible. The longhaul to Europe in J has almost doubled the miles needed!!! The 50% award wont even bring it back down to present levels.....

The before/after mileage award redemptions on TG are as follows:

AKL-BKK return Y. 75,000, from Oct 83,000 (11% increase)
AKL-BKK return J. 130,000, from Oct 170,000 (31% increase)

AKL-LHR return Y. 90,000, from Oct 170,000 (89% increase)
AKL-LHR return J. 170,000, from Oct 350,000 (206% increase)

And you need to earn and spend the proposed exhorbitant number of miles within three years, or they will begin to expire.

Good news...we are going to pay you a little bit more, but are raising the prices of everything by a lot more.

The redemption devaluation is really bad.
In the past RT F redemption Europe to Bangkok to Australia was 230.000.
Now with the zones adding up and the OW chart taken it comes to a steep 430.000.
Or Europe to Bangkok to Seoul RT in J was 130.000. now 275.000. This is crazy.

Indeed it is crazy. The usual procedure is to have small devaluations every few years. Small enough to avoid too much protest from members.

THAI are making a mockery of the tier bonuses and small increases in some earning categories when award mileage requirements are being increasing by such an overwhelmingly large amount.
