indeed
TG201 is on wide body aircraft...probably more during high season...

but some will nagging further and claim, that it is usually a 777-200 only without full flat seat.... of course the seasoned and pampered traveler need fullflat on a 1'10" trip...

Flights are either very heavily sold (not unusual for Dec-Jan), or there are impending changes to inject at least 1 wide body. I suspect the demand would be there for both BKK-HKT and BKK-CNX. I am quite surprised BKK-CNX is only 5x daily.

Pics from ExpertFlyer 30 Dec to 31 Dec, and are indicative for the weeks either side.

BKK-CNX 5x daily is not a lot. The price starts at 2650 THB and goes up closer to departure.

it used to be more than double that number of daily flights and more than half of them wide body aircrafts...but then there were much less LCC than nowadays...

Are there widebodies available to fly to HKT and CNX? Maintaining if not adding international flights seems more important and profitable during busy seasons rather than trying to compete with LCCs to Chiang Mai.

I assume not, otherwise surely they’d be scheduled.

The retirement of THAI’s 744, 380 has certainly impacted capacity - although I haven’t done a ‘before and after’ comparison of fleet and capacity.

currently one daily to HKT (TG201 at 0800, usually a 777-200)
none to CNX (only occasionally)
I bet more to come during high season

I am not a fan of the 787 either. But rest assured, if they get them, they will likely follow tradition and add a whole new seat type

I like small airplanes so A330 is my favorite as long as they installed with good J seats.
