Didn't mean to get folks all tangled up in a discussion over NYC vs. IAD and UN vs. US Govt meetings...

...I was just excited to see the TG tail parked at Dulles and for a moment (about 2 microseconds) thought they were starting service here :-)

Then reality sunk in.

BKK IAD would be an interesting route, at 8,808 miles. But with Russian Airspace being ruled out I am not sure I want to think about how long it would actually be.....

Looks from FR24 like it is a 787-8 (HS-TQB) doing the following routing:

BKK-HND-JFK-IAD as TG8832

Same flight number was Bangkok Jeddha on the 14th, quite the variety.

PM's daughter 'paid for her own airfare' (bangkokpost.com)

That's roughly 834K USD, that does not sound too extreme for flying a 787 BKK NYC, and have it waiting there while the UN general assembly takes place. But admittedly it is a lot of money for the trip, and it makes good headlines.

i think the accusations are ridiculous as many other governments have their own government jets and nobody scrutinize who is flying with them and and at what costs....

I fully agree, and it is probably cheaper to charter when needed, than to have a plane at hand all of the time.

Japan has 2 777-300ER that JAL flies for government and the emperor when needed. I am sure that does not come cheap, considering how much random down time they seem to have in Haneda.

Good news.

I wonder if the fourth Tokyo rotation is a second Haneda or third Narita. Thai should have a second slot at Haneda.....

I am guessing the reference is to the bankruptcy procedure and rebuilding of TG - but of course I could be wrong
