No, it makes decisions based on CASA rules, that might be or might be not similar to ICAO recommendations. After all, they are only recommendations as you correctly state...

Unfortunately I think the current information we have is that the date has been moved to June... if that happens at all.

Schedules on the tg website are updated about two months in advance... so I'd expect the operating aircraft to be reflected for April in about 12 days or so.

You have a couple options... SYD is one, but also the 777-300 combined with the new service pattern is pretty good. Service wise it's almost matches TG's regular first class.

The 777-300 (as opposed to the 777-200/300 designator which has angled beds) seems to be pretty consistent on the TG465/466.

At the moment it's scheduled for both daily flights every day of that week (23MAR to 01APR) plus the following week - I haven't checked any further.

see posts above... being in the schedule means little, TG change this on a rolling basis about two months in advance.

Hence I wrote "at the moment". And we are at "two months in advance" now.

I have just gone to the TG website and done a sample booking BKK-MEL for 23Mar, 24Mar, 25Mar - all are showing 777-300 or 777-200/300.

So it looks like the rolling 2 months is in effect gradually replacing the A350 showing in forward schedules.

Notified of an aircraft change from A350 to B773 for 26 April
At least the seat config is the lie flat seating. Hopefully that won't change.

I was checking for mid-May and the aircraft was shown as "359". As we all know, that means nothing except "intention"

A350 BKK-MEL Scheduled now from 10/1

Airlineroute is reporting the a350 is now rescheduled to being service to Melbourne beginning 10/1. I checked a flight in August on Thai's website and both departures are now showing 777-300.

Even then it can be a bit hit and miss. TG has dabbled with the choice of aircraft on the MEL-BKK flights for some time. You should have a fairly good idea in the month or two before departure as to which aircraft (772 or 77W) they will use for the 461/2 and 465/6.

The 465/6 have been pretty consistent however for the 77W (777-300)

Edit: Not January, October hey, looks like it might never happen.
