Thanks DH188 for the reply and TPJ for the extra info.
I am still more than happy with the 10F config.

The 747 from BKK to SYD and return, are they old or new? Seatguru says they are old, but as you are saying most of the 747's are already retrofitted, I am not totally sure about that..Fingers crossed for them being new!

I think they mean retrofitted as in the 10-seat config instead of the old 14-seat config. As I understand it, the 9-seaters are the newest, but are in much shorter supply than the 10's.

Ok, so if Seatguru says there are 14 seats, that only leaves the old F, right? But is that true? Is the old F operating from BKK to SYD and return?

Seatguru can be quite inaccurate, especially when it comes to aircraft configs that are new or in flux. I'm booked in BKK-SYD in Dec, and ExpertFlyer is showing the 10-seat config. I think that's the most likely one.

Does anyone know why 3E, F, and K would be blocked in 10F config? It looks like these seats are blocked on all flights from BKK-MUC in April and May.

Seatguru only knows about the 14F config (called 747-400 Version 1) and the 10F config (called 747-400 Version 2). There is no seat guru map for the 9F configuration.

TG923 17 Dec. 2013 FRA-BKK F?

Looks like currently it's 9F seats. Any chance we'll get the new suites in F? Never flown long-haul first before and am looking forward to the experience.

Also, is it worth pre-ordering meals in F & C or taking the chance with what's offered on the day of flight? Hope they're still serving Dom 2003.

I've found their pre-order offers to be quite good (the only problem is deciding what to order), and if you don't like something you can always go for something offered onboard.

The 2003 is quite a bad vintage, and I for one would hope for something better by the time I fly in 6 weeks.

Do these re-fitted aircraft have new galleys? I flew one of these LHR-BKK Friday and it is the first time I have ever had correctly chilled white wine on TG. Previously on both 747 and A340 the white wine and Champagne was never cold enough (for me anyway).

You are pretty sure to be out of luck. 2003 is the current vintage being sold. Moet decided that 2004 was not suitable to be a vintage year and if they decide to bottle 2005 (which seems likely) it won't launch until December of this year.

I'd also point out that Moet don't share your view of the 2003 or they wouldn't have bottled a vintage that year either. They had already produced a 2002, so they didn't need it (unlike say 1988, which was a poor year but they hadn't bottled anything since 1985 and really needed it).

I haven't tried the 2003 yet, but Wine Advocate & Wine Spectator both give it 94 points, so it can't be half bad.

HS-TGB appears to be on a test flight at the moment. Looks like it will be back in service in the next day or so, if it follows the standard pattern. If TGF heads in after it, there will be no 14F planes left!
