Why? Fully flat beds, 1 of 10 passengers on the plane in the cabin, passenger to crew ration of about 3 to 1, open, light cabin. It is still very much first class.

I am a late comer to this excellent thread. I haven't flown Thai in a while and will be in F on the A340 in the summer (although now I am rethinking of booking a 747!). I did see the first post in this thread and understand the basic run-down of the aircraft registrations. Was this post updated at some point to reflect the latest known configurations of the jumbo fleet. If I understand the magazine articles and other postings - the first 6 a/c were refurbished to 9F and completed last year and the second 6 a/c will be completed by end of second quarter 2013. Is that accurate? So are there 12 new cabin interiors flying around or is Thai behind schedule. I am also quite alarmed at the high level of plane substitutions and wonder if I should just stick with my A340 and enjoy the wonderful service - even though part of me desperately wants to experience the new product. I would hate to re-route myself to a 747 only to find they sub my a/c to an airbus A340!

If the sticky needs confirmation, I flew TGB in (wh)Y last week LHR-BKK.
The refresh has been completed on this bird.
Fairly decent AVOD, OK service, and thankfully I managed to bag a row of four seats to myself albeit down the back of the back (DEFG). I survived and even managed some shut-eye!

Just checked on my itin for Nov/Dec and apart from very tight connections (originally had over 2 hours in BKK both ways), we also have new cabins it seems.
TG472 SYD BKK - now showing as 9F All Series 747
TG944 BKK FCO - was A346, now changed to 10F 747
TG931 CDG BKK - A380 (as per original booking) YES!
TG471 BKK SYD - now showing as 9F All Series 747
The 9F 747 is a new change, when I booked it showed the 10F cabin.
I am surprised at the A346 change to a 10F - anyone know why that would be happening? I had picked seats that worked on A346 (1A, 2A) now its a 747 I have tried to change to 1A and 1K but 1K has already gone...ah well.

It made an appearance in Sydney flying SYD-BKK (as per Flightradar 24):
TG472 was flown on 2013-05-12 by HS-TGF (B744) and appears to still be flying around the TG network today. So unless it takes only 2 days to modify, looks like this one has not been modified yet.
