Thanks all for the continued updates re: chat.

The most recent problems with chat obviously appear to be intermittent, and are likely the result of the attack on the site as a whole. Unfortunately, managing the attack is a bit like fighting a battle, with ebbs and flows in progress. All efforts are being made to regain and maintain full functionality throughout FlyerTalk, and we're getting closer to that goal all the time, but as yet we clearly aren't completely there.

Again, thanks for the continued updates ... they really are helpful. And our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience in the meantime.

When I try chat, I dont get in at all, I get this type of error:

"An unknown error occurred while connecting to the DigiChat Server. Please contact the administrator blah blah blah.....

I am frustrated to add that as of today I am STILL in the exact same boat, getting the exact same error I quoted above over and over. Yet all my friends got into to chat tonight (yes some of them kindly IM me on a chat program that actually works...called YAHOO to tell me FT WORKS for SOME of us ).

So close to throwing in the towel on FT...so, so close. I mean, come on this is 3 weeks and counting for me to have no functionality. I have not seen the light of day in the chat room since 13 November .

Dont get me started on the IE error every time I post .

We are still working on chat, and it's one of our top priorities. I personally can't get it to open, but our senior dev can. We've got a network engineer who keeps looking into it, but with the recent network changes it's not completely clear what the problem is.

Here's the update on chat.....

We believe we've solved the problem, however, some users are still not able to get into chat. I, myself, couldn't log into chat from Firefox, but was able to access it via Safari. Last night, I was able to log in from both Safari and FF from my Mac at home. (I had a very nice chat with some of the other FT'ers who were in there).

This morning, I deleted all my cookies for Flyertalk and Digichat on Firefox and I'm now able to access chat from that browser.

So, if you're still having problems connecting to chat, please delete your cookies and try again. If this doesn't work, please let me know and we'll continue to investigate.

Sorry IB-Dick, still getting the same message as quoted before by Downunder Girl. Used both IE and Firefox and deleted cookies from both browsers. Please help and if anyone else has any luck, please report as well. Thanks

On the FF that failed, can you try deleting your cookies (specifically ones for FT and digichat) and try it again? Sorry to ask you to do this, but I'm having a problem finding browsers that can't connect and I want to make sure that this fix works.

I managed to get in last night, though only under a very special combination of circumstances.

I noticed before leaving work that chat connected to my work machine (long-in-the-tooth PC running Chrome on XP).

At home, I was unable to connect with the latest versions of Chrome, FireFox, IE, or Safari on a newish (<1 yr) PC laptop running XP. I tried the last version of Java that worked before the crash, the latest version of Java, and the version of Java that is running on my work computer. No luck with any of these combinations. I get either the error referenced by Dug above, or it just hangs.

Although I did not try it last night, I did try deleting all cookies when trying to get in on Sunday (and it made no difference).

In looking at the Java console, it either hangs right after attempting to log in (I left it in that state as long as 30 min once), or it loads all the sounds and then crashes before loading the first icon (giving the error cited above).

In trying to replicate the conditions that succeeded from work, I tried establishing a VPN connection to the University. That also failed.

Finally, I established a VPN connection specific to my department, and TADA, that one succeeded.

I am far from an expert on such things, but I hope that this info is of value. Literally the only thing that changed between success and failure was establishing that one specific VPN connection.

yup, firefox on my imac still doesn't work and i have ff purge everything on quit so every time i start, it's fresh and clean.

i've also tried disabling ....... plus on on firefox on my imac and that didn't work either.

imac using safari: (using safari .......) and above the chat login boxes, a "java window" appears saying logging you in (or something similar) and then i become logged in within about 30 or so seconds.

laptop: the same as above for both safari & firefox and with firefox on the laptop, ....... plus is enabled

imac using firefox: cannot log in and the "java window" is just a blank rectangular box but with ....... plus enabled, if i mouse over the box, i am given the option "block". with ....... plus disabled, the box stays blank

hope that makes sense

I use IE8 and Firefox and since I'm no computer expert, can anyone give me a detail way as to how to solve this problem. I think I deleted the cache and the cookies but they still seem to linger so presumed I've done it wrong. I'll try to go to school one day to try chat there to see it works but it's impossible to be in the library chatting with others at midnight eastern time.

I am still out in the cold with the same error I have referenced in this thread.

I use Internet Explorer browser only on laptop with Vista and PC has XP. Neither work.

Could someone please tell me how to CLEAR cookies etc? Yeah I know, I am not so tech savvy .

Thanks.

What version of IE?

For those having problems still, can you give me an idea of your geographical location? I know we're still having some issues in different areas, and I wonder if this is related.

My status is unchanged from post #39 above. I can get in, but only by a circuitous route that was not previously necessary. FWIW I have done multiple rounds of clearing all cookies and rebooting, etc.

As I say, I can get in now so I'm not really complaining. But clearly some access that existed prior to the crash no longer does, or I wouldn't have had to change thing. So I understand how some people might still be miffed.

My location, as indicated at left, is near Denver.
