So expecting troubles?
What has changed/upgraded/downgraded?

IBobi Sep 4, 2019 5:52 pm

Not expecting but preparing.

Was going to reply that the new bottom of message buttons in mobile are visually awful and clunky, but the message box would not load. Just had empty space where the box should be. Tried reloading several times (both browser reload page button and back/click reply again). Had to switch to desktop to work.

defrosted Sep 9, 2019 12:45 pm

Same problem. Title and reason for editing still available

Hi guys, we're aware of the message box not appearing. It's currently our highest priority to fix.

Switching to the simple editors seems to be a workaround

IBobi Sep 9, 2019 1:06 pm

Looks to be fixed on desktop/FF, not Chrome though.

EDIT: if you clear your cache (CTRL+F5) it now works.

jrl767 Sep 9, 2019 1:08 pm

“Edit” not working in Desktop mode ... all I get is a grey box like a “Quote” field (that doesn’t actually accept keyboard inputs) with a small white “Reason for editing” overlay

IBJoel Sep 9, 2019 1:08 pm

Full CKEditor should be back up. Bypass your cache if it's still not appearing for you.

Should now be OK. See if Bypassing your cache fixes that.

jrl767 Sep 9, 2019 1:09 pm

ok, seems to be normal(ish)

Just out of curiosity, how did the lack of such a fundamental function make it past QA?

The same software is tested on an internal server prior to going live, and sometimes it behaves differently there. There's no other way to do this.

Can't reply using iPhone / Safari.

The boxes for reply / quote look horrible on mobile. Who designed this?

Also what happened to the quoted messages? Looks horrible:

Still does not work in Microsoft Edge. No way to post anything. :(

Not a great update if if you can’t post messages after it rolled out, which is kind of a key task for a message board.

Antarius Sep 9, 2019 1:14 pm

Like the look and feel, but the new mobile icons are a huge real estate hog. Instead of an icon, it's now a word which takes up significantly more space.

Did you try clearing your browser cache CTRL+F5?

Florens, if you bypass or clear your cache on Mobile Safari, are you able to reply?

This change was implemented to make those functions more user-friendly for those who have not been on the forum for as long and thus may not understand the simple icons.

Indeed now it is working.

Did this by chance begin to display quoted posts in the correct format?

Yes, indeed.

MSPeconomist Sep 9, 2019 1:44 pm

it's still not working on my iPad Pro. I can't quick reply (with or without quoting the post). reply, edit, etc.

Edit seems to work now.

I cleared the cache, and logged out and back in again, and it fixed the "no message box" issue.
Thanks for the fast fix!

I'll talk to tech about this.

Message box is back after clearing cache! However, I sincerely hope that not every single user of this forum that has been logged in before this update has to do this to be able to use simplified post box. Not the best implementation!

New buttons look nice on desktop, but can not say the same for the mobile version. Previous design was more compact, nice on devices with smaller screens.

I think I'm good now too (Chrome Win 10).

kipper Sep 9, 2019 1:56 pm

The orange "New Thread" and "Reply" buttons are obnoxious.

"Submit Reply" seems to be larger than "Preview Post."

What exactly does the "Breaking News" button do?

The buttons had their resolution increased, and mobile buttons were changed from icons to more explicit descriptions of their functions for users less familiar.

Still a problem.....and also if I try the quote and enter only one or two characters as a further experiment.

It allows you suggest the post/thread for a news item.

You might want to explain that in the announcement or some such, because to me, "Breaking News" would logically take me to trending topics, or a consolidator of aviation-related news, etc.

narvik Sep 9, 2019 2:20 pm

There is an issue with displaying the correct post after a reply:

I have the settings set to display the last message first, but after a reply, it reverts to a different post altogether, and not the correct order.
Clicking on FIRST will correct this, but this is an additional step not previously required.

I agree it's confusing, we'll try to come up with a better button name.

So it'll just be a random post you get after submitting your reply? I'll change my settings and test it out.

I opened a tech ticket, it'll just take a moment. You had this functionality before, to submit a post that was just a quote of someone else? Was this useful?

Testing Reply with "Newest First" settings.

RESULT: Takes me to the last page. Will open a tech ticket.
