Hello!
I am one of the longtime contributors to the "Old Timer's Airline Quiz and Discussion" in the Travel Buzz section. I encountered a major problem today while composing a new set of airline quiz items. Following several hours of work, I received an error message followed by my lengthy post being completely wiped out without a trace before I had completed it. I did try to reload but no joy. Usually my posts are automatically saved as I enter them so I can then retrieve them if a problem is encountered while in progress (and this has worked great in the past). However, this did not happen this time. Is there any way I might retrieve my post in progress or will I have to start over from scratch? Very frustrating! Thanks for your assistance and advice in advance. I'm getting a button that allows me to restore what I wrote in a previous editor. Are you not seeing the same as below? Tech said it should auto-save after 60sec/1min. If not, what browser/device are you on? (P.S. I asked if there was anyway they could get me your lengthy content back). https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bb83cecdbe.png |

Thanks. |
Another lower priority but outstanding issue that was just as true before the update but which seems even worse after the update:
Reaching your profile. It used to take a longer than necessary time for the website to actually take us to our profile. There never was any excuse, but it always took like 10-15 seconds at least after hitting your name link on the MyFlyerTalk page or even the Your Profile link under the Control Panel. Now it takes 30-45 seconds to get to your actual profile page! It delays to get there now...and then semi-loads and delays as the tabs and other details finally load/populate. It is freaking annoying. Please fix! |

Going to a variety of Profile pages (my own, yours, other users) loads almost instantly for me. Have you tried different devices and browsers?
Is it possible that I'm being screwed by my own large list of hotel reviews that causes that page to load painfully slow? |

OK, I just tested the auto restore on my iPad and I don't see the words in the lower left corner of the text box for my "quick reply" now. I know it was working for me earlier today.

I'll ask tech if there's some kind of fix or alternative formatting we can implement. |

Full site is completely broken in MobileSafari with an adblocker. Blank page. Clearing cache and resetting to the mobile site works.
Yes, I am a horrible person for using an adblocker. Except you guys suck in your ad vetting; I’m pretty sure that $1000 Amazon gift card or iPhone I allegedly won is a spam ad. I won’t remove adblockers if you guys allow spammy clickjacking ads in your ad network. Sorry not sorry. And while we’re at it, must flyvertalk ads be animated? Do you have any data supporting a financial benefit? (I wouldn’t mind paying an annual fee for ad-free, but don’t see it mentioned as an option.) At times the visual triggers bring up thoughts of whether my doctor should have me checked for borderline misokinesia. Joel, in August 2015, before your time here on flyertalk, I wrote about such distraction in one of my first posts. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tech...l#post25225609 |

I'm not quite sure about the relevance of your post from 2015, although I couldn't read the NYT article because I'm maxed out for the month. |

This is because it takes you to your own post in the event that you need to edit anything.
Just now, after my reply, I was taken to "page 6 of 6" which included posts 1-12, and not the page containing my post 212, which would be "page 1 of 6" with my settings. |

No, it does not. It takes me to the last page of the thread, which is the first posts. I have to click on "First" to get back to my post. Try changing your settings to "newest first" and you'll see what I mean.

The #hashtag or #pound reading as a "website" is due to the hashtag subscriptions you can edit here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/user...shsubscription

Useless suggestion. I want to enter post #213 , and your software is creating a bogus link. There is unfortunately no way to avoid this bug without editing the post after the fact (which I did not do this time to demonstrate how broken this "feature" is).
EDIT: Let me test one thing test 1: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/31519458-post214.html test 2: #214 test 3: #214 OK, so even if you type "#214" and link it to a specific post, that post link will override the tag link. |

I'm not aware of any limit under 100MB (and I believe even that is not in effect). Could you please email me that content, so I can test it out? [email protected]
Basically, I was typing some text, then adding a couple pictures (resized in a 1200x900 format so that the size does not exceed 500kb per pic) and then continuing to type, add some more pics, then type again etc... until I figured out I wanted to change something at the beginning of my post and realized the content was no longer there. Actually, most, but not all the content typed or uploaded disappeared. Hope that my explanations make sense. I used in the past the autorestore feature, which I would have been VERY happy to see yesterday, but there was no way to find it. I tried later on typing the small content I recreated and uploaded a few pics, but the smae thing happened again... |

Hi Joel, Thanks for the reply. The problem is that for this post, I was stupid enough to type "live" directly into the thread, and not copy/pasting from an off-line text editor. I have some of the text which I recreated again (this time using the notepad) that I will share with you by email.

IBJoel that’s the same issue I previously described and that you said tech had moved to higher priority to fix.
This should now be fixed. As always, clear cache if it's still wonky and try again. |

Smilies:
Not sure if posted already, but there's an issue with the Smilies too: for some reason, after a while (not sure if random) if you click on the Smilies, the possible selection multiplies; i.e. there's the exact same Smilies available, but they are displayed multiple times. ...testing ...testing more Apparently this issue happens after editing a post: the multiplication of Smilies is in direct proportion of how many edits the post receives: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b0652b2acf.png |
IBJoel Unfortunately, there is a new glitch that I've now noticed. We get the thread highlighted in our MyFlyerTalk list of threads even after we are the ones who made the latest post--that's a glitch. We know we already posted, of course!

But it's... not a bug.
I simply see no purpose to it. There's NO WAY anyone would want to know who else posted something with No. 1, or whatever. Maybe this hashtag "feature" could be removed for numbers??? As mahasamatman previously mentioned; this is NOT new to this latest update, but would be nice if it could be corrected. It's VERY annoying, especially for new members who may think there is a clickable link in a post with additional information, when there is not. This would be some example: "So, I was #1 on the upgrade list, but then almost miraculously, just 5 minutes before boarding I dropped to #3, then #14 . 10 minutes later I was #1 again. Why? By the way, I feel sorry for the last on the upgrade list, as they were at #1574!" See how those links appear? I would now normally go back into EDIT mode, and delete those links manually. (I did this edit for Number 3 in the above example (removed the hyperlink), and changed the number 1574 from 123, but it still reverts to hashtag 123.) REALLY QUITE ANNOYING! |
snapshot of my post #197 upthread
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3d9526cd55.png partially to see what works and what doesn’t work; partially to reiterate that I fear we are fighting a losing battle for a number that refers to a post within the thread, the auto-hashtag is fine; however, for a number that refers to ANYTHING ELSE, the fact that it sends you to the upthread post is **COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY USELESS** |
The safe area insets are still not being respected, causing content to overlap with the iPhone multitasking bar (see screenshot)
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6882dbd50.jpeg This is very easily resolved with a minor CSS change and will improve usability on a variety of tablets and smartphones: https://webkit.org/blog/7929/designi...-for-iphone-x/ |
please modify the text colour choices
The colour palate needs a lighter grey, please. The current grey is barely distinguishable from black: grey, black.

this is another aspect of the font color palette issue I mentioned in Post #151 upthread; your response (Post #165 ) was "I'll look into it"
and note how annoying it is to click on the "hashtag link" and get a whole list of posts rather than actually being taken to the relevant post, which would occur if I actually embedded the link to the relevant post  |

my complaint about the color palette was that there are fewer colors (6 to 10?) with less noticeable contrast levels between the shades in the same color family ... I've actually gone back into the source code of posts where I used the now-absent bright green to copy the hex code (16a085)

If you copy/paste the post link to the post (which is how I believe it's always been required), it overrides the hashtag link.

IBJoel what is the status on the "post and then get returned to the oldest post in a thread" glitch? It's been a week. For those of us who post the most often, this glitch is far and away the most annoying and frustrating and seems to be appropriate to be a highest priority fix.
It's been a week. It's super frustrating, very annoying, and increasingly more time consuming. Colors can wait. |

I think this may be your display settings. The gray looks quite middle-of-the-spectrum for me, nowhere near black.
