It worked perfectly until late last week (Thursday or Friday I'd say). I will try clearing the cache and report back.

Just happened to me again. Starting in the mobile skin from

I clicked on a thread with new messages via the "first new post" link and read the two new messages.

I then went back to the subscriptions page and noticed the thread had not been updated to reflect all the messages had been read. Forced refresh, no change. Cleared cache and forced refresh, no change. Clicked on the thread again and it showed me the same two messages as if they were unread.

Possibly of note: the first unread message was N+1 where N is an exact multiple of 15, which is my default page size (of course the page size only really comes into play on the desktop skin without infinite scroll, but even in infinite scroll it still keeps track of page numbers).

This reinforces my vague recollection (in that I haven't kept notes on details but this seems to fit with my memory) that the problem tends to occur when there are multiple new pages of messages to be read, almost as if there is a "last read" tracker that remembers the last post number that you read, but that for some reason it sometimes only works on the first page and then stops recording when you cross over a page boundary (and maybe my current experience suggests it is also broken if you begin reading exactly at a page boundary)

Anyway just speculating (black box QA is fun) -- could be a total red herring.

The mobile infinite scroll only updating the read message pointer to the last item on the first "page" of new posts rather than the last post you read definitely is a thing and has been an issue for me for a while. If this recognised as a bug and with the upcoming new version being deployed is this big addressed?

I'm getting this, but seems to be related to thread size (I didn't have the problem on threads at 400 posts, but did when they were 2-3,000). I'll report to tech.

It just happened to me on a thread with ~60 posts. I won't swear to this 100% but pretty sure I haven't seen it on any thread that has 15 or fewer posts, where 15 == the "page" size that I have set (for how many posts to show at a time)

Agree, it happens on any size of thread where it is multipaged. So for me like Zorak I have my page size set to 15, where any thread has more than 15 posts the last read message counter is unlikely to update if the last new message isn't on the "page" of 15 where the first unread message is when I enter the thread.

How can I reset FT so posts appear by page instead of continuously scrolling?

Use the desktop version of the site, and then you should see your control panel as a fixed menu on the left side of the screen when you go down.

I'll nudge tech. It's not a reliably reproducible issue and when that's the case, it's difficult for them to do anything about.

I personally can reproduce it every time. It's very annoying.

Nevermind. I guess I somehow got switched to the mobile view on my desktop. Weird.

I can’t believe this is still not fixed and there is no way (none of the suggestions above appear in my settings or options page) to opt out of this or even click at the bottom to go to the desktop version. This is why people are abandoning the site or at least using less (too hard to search and constant issues like this) :(

Yes I was recently able to find the underlying cause and I updated them with that information

OK, I have the opposite problem. I have infinite scroll enabled (I'm one of the rare ones that likes this) and while it does do the infinite scroll, the page count at the bottom doesn't update as you scroll. I can go to the last page of a post and it will still say "Page 1 of 4" but when I click Last it goes to the last post, which I've already seen.

They're related, so solving the original problem should also fix this.

I've just been searching threads for information/update on infinite scroll on mobiles and I assume you still can't turn it off (only desktop)?

If that is the case then it's a shame as I do the majority of my browsing on my mobile and for that reason I barely use this site as it's so painful to read threads as it constantly jumps around. Major fail IMO.

I lost the scroll feature and added the mobile skin. My desktop changed, still can't scroll and cannot go back to the way it was. Anyone able to help this old man out?

edit to add: I can only get the first and last page of a thread. Nothing in between. Can IT just do a reset for me?

Infinite scroll has been playing up since last night (Europe time) and it's not working at all today

Under the old screen/format, I could at least see all the different pages, albeit one at a time. The way it is now, Flyertalk is useless to me. I have received the best information using this site, both directly and indirectly. Hopefully someone does something, otherwise I will have to see if I can find something that hopefully comes close to Flyertalk, which I doubt I can.

Thank you. That is what I have been looking for. It was no longer available to me when I went to Mobile skins. I used to have the infinite scroll on this version, but it stopped a few days ago, but now I can go page by page if I have to.

Chrome both on Android and Windows. EDIT: it's intermittent.

The last unread pointer issue is still consistently there though!

Yes, just tried an incognito session, new login, and it's not possible to scroll through a "page" boundary in a newly unread thread.

Gotcha. Could you please post a screenshot of the boundary where you're scrolled all the way down, so I can show tech?

I would, but the paranoid Android overlords seem to think taking a screenshot of an incognito browser window is forbidden. And I didn't realise that until I just tried. Perhaps that's a bug too, but it does pop up a message saying you're not allowed to screen capture this app. Sigh.

There's not a lot to see... The page counter at the bottom shows that you're on page (example) 103/105 and you simply cannot scroll out of the page, no matter how hard you try.
