Did you post the wrong link? That thread's not spam. Someone had a situation on a BA flight, posted asking for input & was pretty much told he over-reacted. The OP has been a member of FT for 12 years & has over 1,400 posts, so I really don't think he's spamming.

The email I received today from nicebabe via FT's email system was spam - unless I wanted to send a pic & get in a relationship personal & professional with someone based in Indonesia, that is . I didn't realize this thread existed, so I sent the info to IBobi via PM with the handle & the 2 emails provided.

Cheers.

Oops, I wasn't clear

Sorry, my question was about post #6. First time poster with a response that had nothing to do with the thread. Odd question asking about the whatup app.

I just didn't give enough detail. sorry.

Well, I just went back to verify the post number and it's gone. The mods must have taken care of it.

Again, not reporting the thread, but a no longer present odd post.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

Cheers.

I saw this one and deliberately decided not to report it. I stopped reporting stuff here as soon as someone stated in this thread that it wasn't enough to report the spam in this thread despite others apparently being appreciative when FT members used this thread in the way that it was intended.

I've given up reporting spam here as I have no desire to waste my time reporting individual posts/threads to individual moderators, especially given the 30 second rule between RBPs. I had been reporting a lot as I noticed it, but no more for me.

The problem with reporting SPAM in this thread is that moderators may not notice it here for a long while. For example, one of the posts from the user in question was first RBPed by a member at 1:25am yesterday morning. The SPAM posts in Information Desk were deleted at 3:45am, barely two hours later.

However, I did not have the opportunity to visit this thread to notice scottpenderson's post until just now--36 hours after the SPAM was reported by RBP, and I'm not even sure my co-moderators in the Information Desk forum even know about this thread. Had no one reported the SPAM by RBP, there's a chance the SPAM could have languished for up to 36 hours before being deleted based on me noticing the post in this thread.

Here are some pro-tips on how best to use the RBP function, based on my experience as a moderator:

  • If a user has spammed multiple posts/threads in a single forum, there is no need to report each post individually. Simply mention in your RBP that the user has posted several different SPAM posts in that given forum, and moderators of individual forums can simultaneously delete all of that user's posts within that forum with a single check-box.
  • If a user has spammed multiple posts across the entire site, make sure to mention in the RBP that the user has spammed in several forums, and the moderator can forward the message to the Senior Moderators, who have the ability to remove posts in all forums. The individual forum moderators can suspend users to prevent further posting but don't have the ability to delete posts outside of their assigned forums.
  • Alternatively, if the SPAMming user has posted in one of the forums without assigned moderators, by default, an RBP will go directly to the Senior Moderators. Simply report one of these posts rather than one in a forum with assigned moderators and mention that the user has spammed in several forums, and they can take all of the posts on the entire site out with one click. If you notice that one of the Senior Moderators is currently online and active, you can also send a PM to that Senior Moderator, which may be the most expeditious way of getting rid of sitewide SPAM.
  • Last, if you need to report several different messages from several different users and don't want to wait for the 30 second RBP interval (which perhaps the FT admins can dial down a bit?), you can always just paste a bunch of direct post links into one RBP and ask the moderator to also look into those additional posts.

On the other hand, it is possible that the Senior Moderators may be subscribed to this thread with email alerts, which would theoretically allow them to be instantly notified of posts in this thread and thus be able to quickly deal with posts here. However, the Senior Moderators would need to confirm if that is the case.

Good input. Thx.

That spammer should try te handle of "FlyerTalk spam specialist"... They get more sophisticated, using various ways to sneak under the radar. Thanks for helping us give 'em the boot.

The love specialist is back, posting 25 spam threads.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...power0002.html

Shouldn't there be a rule that new members can't post more than, say, five threads on their first day?
