John, if you want to check your server logs, the site was pretty much down from about 8 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. this morning, Pacific Time.

Thanks!

It's really dragging right now. 30+ seconds to load any page, and a post on which I clicked "submit reply " on several minutes ago is still "waiting for www.flyertalk.com."

Edit: and now it's better. The problem seems to be coming and going a lot.

It's ridiculously slow, and has been on and off for weeks now.

Agree with the last sentence of studentff's post: the s-l-o-w response to page load has been intermittent. At times, good speed at others, maddeningly slow.

Are you kidding? I started this thred on the 4th when performance really started going south, I am so happy (unfortunately so) that others have finally chimed in with similar experiences and that it's not just me/my connection/my computer/my imagination, etc.

OTOH, the fact that it's been going on pretty much all month and has yet to be addressed is becoming a major -- I'd like to hear from the IB Tech guys about what they're doing to address this and what kind of timetable is involved for resolution.

I'm not an IB tech guy, but I know IB tech guys ... and I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night

I'm not sure there is a definitive timetable for resolution of this problem at the moment, but Kevin and the guys are stepping through a process that will hopefully have the site running quickly again sooner rather than later.

Mikel, thanks for the explanation.

In as non-tech a manner as possible, can you explain what the major issues are with FlyerTalk as to speed, tiime-outs and the like? As you know, these issues pre-date IB and have plagued us periodically over the years.

Perhaps it's just growing pains for a robust IBB and others suffer a similar fate. I don't know because I rarely stray from FT and haven't experienced this slowness at other websites.

I realize you don't know the answer or somebody would fix it. But I was curious as to what issues you think are affecting us here.

Thanks..

I'm not sure what's causing the current issue, but in the days prior to IB our issues were generally the result of servers that weren't powerful enough to handle the load and/or server configurations that weren't optimal. The pattern at that time seemed to be; traffic on FT would increase, the site would get bogged down, we would make configuration adjustments and/or move FT to more powerful servers, then traffic would increase ... and on and on.

I don't want to speak out of turn, but I think this time the situation is a bit different, as IB has put considerable resources into the servers on which FT runs and the configuration of those servers.
