Honestly,

The lack of explanation for what happened: "we're working on it" only works for a few days, not months and then for it to stop the day it started working again, is inexcusable.

This is not rocket science. This is a service run off a commercially available BBS system and I partake in many other sites where messages never stopped working. Internet Brands has some work to do - either with the quality of their staff or their investment in resources to make things work. Either way, this is a big FAIL.

It took until I made CEO to get the "back stories" to IS/IT problems, large and small. The three main answers for why the embargo: "We don't want to broadcast where there's a chink in our armor." "My people aren't really people people." And, sub to the second one: "We don't want to contribute to the tsunami that some complaints could create." The politics of IS/IT...

As I posted before, lack of updates forced me to spend significantly less time on this forum and gave me a good chance to fall in love with a new website similar to flyertalk and enjoy being there. They use much better and more modern platform for their forums.

www.milepoint.com The reason I was not sure if I can post it, because some people got banned from FT for doing so and now very active on milepoint. Oh well, I am there most of the time anyway.

Thank you, TAHKUCT. I knew who you meant... I just hadn't heard about the bad blood or sanctions -- though I've thought it has to happen at some point. In fact, for now, there are leaders, including some mods, of both who are active in both, or were. Anyway, back to business...

Those of you who rely on email updates and are less active because of the lack of emails--

You are aware of MyFlyerTalk, right?

IMHO, email is a massively inefficient way to rely on updates to FlyerTalk threads. I begin 99% of my multiple-times-daily FlyerTalk browsing experience at MyFlyerTalk; it's far faster and far more up-to-date.

I am not aware of anyone who has been banned from FT for mentioning MP.

I do know that a few people who were not positive contributors to the helpful atmosphere of FT and outstayed their welcome here showed up on MP when it opened for business.

This old dog learns another new trick. (OK, it was always here.) Thank you, jackal.

No worries. I didn't discover it until about 2008, four years after I joined FT, when I was over at another FTer's house for a DO and saw him using it.

For me the emails are an efficient way to filter out the interesting threads in some of the forums containing lot of noise. I use the e-mails to browse the new threads by subject in some forums, sometimes while commuting (that is being offline). In some forums only 3-5% of the threads that are of interest. As far as I can see MyFlyerTalk doesn't give me the same overview/"fuctionality" as my daily e-mails used.

As ever, Jackal provides a useful solution (or workaround, in this case).

To address your concerns about the time frame of this issue, I am in contact with Dick, who is investigating the technical side of this, on a regular basis. Last week there was a brief and hopeful period when the emails alerts arrived again, but then stopped. Testing is ongoing.

From what I have heard from Dick, this is a very difficult issue to diagnose, partly because the system seems to be set up correctly on our end, and recreating the issue has been intermittent.

I encourage you to try using MyFlyerTalk until we have this issue resolved, and thank you for being patient with us while this important functionality is offline.

Please continue to alert me via this thread if you see a change in your email alerts, so that I can pass the information on to Dick.

Thank you,

Paul

And I always thought Bobi was a female. Blanket apology for prior missteps. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they've been coming through timely after the last hiatus that I reported. (And the hung-up ones came in over hours.) Thanks again, Paul.

And jackal, I understand the mods are going to be getting another dose about tamping down any issues between FT and MP at the upcoming meeting.
