One of my suggestions, during the internal TalkBoard discussion, before Randy decided not to count any OMNI posts, was that we create a separate OMNI Games Forum where posts didn't count and leave OMNI post counts alone. I still think it is a great idea, but of course, I am prejudiced. :D

Actually, in fairness to whoever suggested it out here, that idea was being kicked around on the public thread before it got mentioned on the private forum, so it came from one of the members originally :)

It is one of the better ideas we've got for dealing with the situation however.

Absolutely! But it has nothing to do with the titles or any like it. I've said, and will reiterate, you can take away all the titles and hoopla as far as I am concerned. What the number represents to me is my participation in this community, OMNI included.

I've offered a lot of damn good info in OMNI if I do say so myself. I think a lot of what I've posted is much more informative than the crap that gets included in CommunityBuzz, Travel Security, Newsstand, etc.

So do I have a vested interest here? Yes, absolutely!

Look, Randy has done lots of things I disagree with. Occasionally, I've been able to work with him and others to get him to change his mind, but that's not a universal thing. I'd suggest that given his track record and history of being pretty definitive on this issue that there are better places to make a stand. Were I at odds with Randy over an issue that he's treated like the OMNI post counts, I'd drop it. Why badger the guy--it's clearly not going to do any good? YMMV.

Has anyone made a motion to create a separate Games forum? Seems like lots of people think it is a good idea. Why not create that as a parallel motion to this one?

Personally, I prefer not to have parallel motions about the same subject running. My own thinking on this would be to let the current motion pass or fail, wait a few weeks to see how things develop and then see if there is still a need for a games forum. Other Talkboard members may think or feel differently though.

I'm glad you were able to raise the issue that I posted about on April 6, 2007, in the TalkBoard forum prior thread on OMNI post counts. If you were already discussing this topic internally, why the rush to come out with this motion that didn't address games?

I haven't heard too many TBer opinions on the inconsistency issue. Do you folks think it is ok to not have OMNI posts count but the Delta lounge thread does, countless BA "off-topic" posts count, CommunityBuzz "happy birthday!" posts count, non-informative Travel Security rants count, off-topic Newsstand posts (until they're moved to OMNI) count, etc. etc.

How do you folks feel about the blatant inconsistency we have here? Randy has given his opinion (it's not inconsistent because the forums that don't count are the ones that have a threshold to reach before accessing them: OMNI and Coupon Connection). What are your opinions on this issue?

I don't think this will solve anything. The people who are using the Game threads to post pad will not participate. They will try to post pad in OMNI proper, creating WOT threads that are almost games, but not quite. Anyone moderating OMNI (Randy) will tear his hair out dealing with this, pardon the term, gamesmanship. Forums other than OMNI have full-time moderators and are much better equipped to deal with post padders who want to waste their own and others' time.

To the extent that games are not used for post padding, the present arrangement accommodates that perfectly.

I see OMNI as an escape valve for FT. I could go either way on counting posts there, but Randy moderates OMNI and he's in the best position to judge what it takes to make OMNI workable. Heaven knows I wouldn't want to try to be a moderator in OMNI...

I'm not sure that's true at all. It seems to me that if someone is post-padding in a non-game thread then that is simply a violation of the TOS and would be dealt with as such, no?

It's like pornography; I know it when I see it.

The moderators can tell in other forums when people are trying to post pad to get access to Coupon Connection, for instance. Why is OMNI posting saliently different?

But I like your idea. Maybe Randy should make me OMNI moderator to give me a chance. :)

Actually, if you search this forum for a "modest proposal on post counts" you will see that I proposed going much, much further than just OMNI with regards to the non-counting of posts. You will have to try much harder to buttonhole me ;).

It's his prerogative if he thinks it's in FT's best interests--even if that's "inconsistent" in the minds of some.

Again--search on a "modest proposal for post counts." I'd like to see them gone from anything that's not a mile/point forum.
