"The usual": you can get some light from the galley when the curtains are being opened and some noise. In my opinion, the (times x) larger cubby hole outweighs that disadvantage by far.
There are earplugs and eyemasks to fight noise and light, but there's no cure for a cubby hole that feels like an anvil clamping your feet in one position. |

No Seats until Airport? Swiss International
UA*G here. Booked LX41 LAX-ZRH through United Airlines for this weekend as I have done multiple times in the past. Typically, I simply log into my booking at swiss.com and either pay for or select a seat.
Now that the route is flown by Swiss International Airlines on the new aircraft, seat selection is not available at Swiss.com. I called LX in Switzerland and they said seats cannot be assigned until check-in at the airport. Not even during OLCI. Has anyone experienced this or have a work-around? I can't get to the airport early enough to guarantee a decent seat. |
J seats A330. 5D? Big cabin better? Throne worth $?
I booked an award ticket in A330 LX business class. Was assigned 5D. Definitely want a seat without someone having to climb over me or having to climb over someone, so this is decent. Seatguru is worried about noise. Should I move back to the big cabin in middle somewhere? Should I pay for throne? 149 francs?
thanks in advance! (This is the return on the first trip I'll ever fly award tickets, and first time in J. Thanks to everyone who helped me figure it out.) |
Now that I look closer, another question arises: better to have a seat right on the aisle for a more open foot area, or better to have a seat insulated from the aisle for peace, at cost of smaller footrest? I am short, 5'7"ish, and 8.5 feet, so maybe not an issue?

Some people prefer the small front cabin while others prefer the main cabin. I am one of the latter. With the exception of the bulkhead rows (4 and 6) the space for the feet is similar. I'm not sure if I prefer to have an 'open' foot area as shown in this photo (of seat 5B). http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/o...1.jpg~original http://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=977937 What matters to me more is the seat itself. I have sat in a 'throne' (4A and 6A) a few times and don't particularly like it. I'm by no means large but I feel wedged in in a throne seat. I much prefer a single seat on the righthand side of the cabin with the table between the seat and the aisle (5K, 7K, etc). Even numbered K seats only have the armrest between you and the aisle (as do 4D, 5G and other similar seats) and some people reported feeling very close to the floor when the seat is fully reclined. I still think this article gives the best descriptions of various Swiss Airbus business seats. Unless you can get one of the K seats, or definitely want to be in the main cabin, I think 5D is a decent seat despite what I have written although you may feel wedged in between two tables. |
Thanks. This is very helpful.
So the two tables causes more of a wedged feeling, of I follow you, than a table on one side and the aircraft wall on the other? Also: the seats are equally low when reclined, if I understand, but this is especially uncomfortable only when one's face is so close to the aisle. I think all kinds available. I will consider a wall seat if better. Thanks! |

On most flights throne seats used to be blocked for M&M status customers, and depending on the route most of the odd numbered K seats are also blocked, but I understand Swiss is now charging for the throne seats to passengers who are not HON/SEN. |
Does anyone know how is seat 5A, 5B and 5D on A330 ? I know it is close to lavatory but is it a major problem ? Is there any smell issue ?
We are pre-assigned these 3 seats and i want to know if i should keep them or change to any other seats? Thank you |

But Is there any drawback on these seats 5A, 5B and 5D on A330? Do people just hang around gallery and talk as gallery is right behind seats ? |
No, those seats in the small, forward "stuebli" cabin are fine, and are usually reserved only for high-rating M&M customers, at least until OLCI starts. The stuebli is usually served first, too, IIRC. Some people prefer the more spacious C cabin behind, but if you're not averse to having your own mini 9-seat area, it's fine.
I haven't flown in that area in the A333 but have in the basically identical configuration in the A343. I don't remember any noise or busy-ness related to the closeness to the galley and toilets. Try searching this and other LX threads using "stuebli" or "stubli" as keywords. |
