The following hotels have been voted as the worst in the Starwood portfolio of hotels.

Hotels with a low number of votes, and there is a majority that only have one vote each, should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Moreover, several hotels have had significant renovations since the original vote(s) were cast. As a result, negative votes for those properties should be discounted.

> June 2014: Bath towels stank. Night staff at front desk were curt and unkempt -- a guy had crooked glasses and dandruff all over his suit jacket. He frowned several times while processing my check in. No smile or welcome, verbally or nonverbally. While I was checking in he received phone calls from several guests, and he refused every request swiftly, firmly, and without apology: "No. What?! No. Housekeeping is closed." I trashed the hotel in a post-stay survey and received an apology from the manager with a vague offer of a future room upgrade. No compensation.

> May 2013: Sloppy housekeeping; room had trash left behind by previous guest. Broken AC; maintenance fixed for the afternoon, but it broke again overnight. Front desk, upon checkin, claimed no king rooms available (only doubles) despite non-suite king rooms for sale on spg.com. They assigned me a room by the elevator where I could hear nonstop dings and whooshes from the elevator shaft. Front desk was staffed by an uppity fellow who never cracked a smile. What a joke of a 12k points redemption.

> December 2012: Moldy shower tiles. Some rooms were so tiny you'd think you were in Tokyo. Irritating whoosh-whoosh from elevator shaft if room was close to elevator. Bad insulation of sound from hallways. Low class clientele - loud and boisterous folk who enjoyed bragging at 3 a.m. about sexual conquests. Low class front desk - when I asked for a room change because of noise, they asked me if my room was dirty.

> December 2014 (Royal Beach Club room): Heavenly bedding in name only, if at all. Mattress lacked the signature plush comfort; linens were thin and scratchy, pillows were flat and unsupportive. I slept on my bended arm and in the fetal position for warmth. Woke up sore and exhausted every morning despite 9-10 hours of sleep. Lounge breakfast was bland; happy hour was a joke -- buffet ran out within minutes of replenishment. If you wanted the hot item you had to keep tabs on the staff and hustle to the front of the line ASAP when a line began to form.

Four Points Lexington. Where to begin?

- Showing up to the front desk and having an employee who was behind the desk tell me "oh I don't work here"
- Having to remind the agent my rate included breakfast so I could get breakfast coupons
- Elevators that worked half the time
- Dated, ill lit corridors with threadbare carpets covered in stains
- Stained towels in my room
- No pen, no replacements of soap or body lotion that I'd used
- Rude and unfriendly waiter in the restaurant
- Cold, store bought pastries and undrinkable juice as part of breakfast
- And finally, when checking out being told "oh our system doesn't work, I can't give you a receipt"

And I was paying north of $160/night too

The rooms at the Sheraton Chapel Hill were certainly "Hall of Shame" worthy, though the club lounge had a very decent breakfast for a club lounge with at least 4-5 hot dishes. It's not the St. Regis Bali breakfast, but my expectations for club lounge breakfast in the USA isn't very high, and it at least exceeded them.

The rooms, though... where to start. They're tiny, dimly lit, carpet stains (prob why it's dimly lit so you can't see them) balcony door is broken, bathtub is gross -- as is toilet (though sink area is oddly attractive), iron didn't work, nor did the 2 I had to go down to the front desk to get to replace it (just decided to stop at that point)... truthfully if you had me close my eyes and told me I was in a room at the Knights Inn or Econolodge I wouldn't have been surprised...

I've stayed there twice with no SPG status and everything seemed fine to me. I even thought the corner king room was spacious. (I'll admit 2 doubles felt tight, but not tiny.)

My only gripe is the location: too far from campus relative to the Marriott (Siena) and Hilton (Franklin Hotel) properties. But that means a lower room rate....

At the risk of sounding repetitive here: As the OP, I too agree that hotels such as SGS and the (renovated) PDG are great hotels – but to retain complete objectivity of this thread I am not going to remove one that someone else has suggested is their worst Starwood property, no matter how much I disagree with them. Mario33 was the one who voted for the SGS to be added (because he didn’t like the ‘green tiles’ in the hotel’s pre-renovated rooms….) and so he is the only one who can request for this hotel to be removed from the list. So if anybody feels strongly about removing any hotels from the list, my suggestion would be to reach out to he/she who has posted it here in the first place.

Same goes for renovations. There are varying degrees of renovations – some re-do their lobby lighting whilst others close down the hotel completely and re-build the structure from scratch. Hence it undermines the objectivity of the list for me to remove any hotels because there has been a ‘renovation’ there. Again, only the person who has voted for the hotel to be listed here can have it removed… so where you feel a hotel has “turned a corner” because of renovation, please direct that message to he/she who has voted for it in the first place.

Thanks and safe travels!

I don't know how I've never seen this thread before!

Let me preface by saying I have over 700 spg nights, so while these might sound extreme, they really represent a very small number (%-wise) of the most (horribly) outstanding experiences (in a sea of otherwise good-to-great ones).

Four Points Revere
:

-CONSTANT stream of hookers in their "business area" using the computers to post craiglist ads once they've finished with their johns. So bad that I actually complained to the front desk. They shooed them away that time, but never actually did anything to stop them in the future.

-Front desk opened a personal letter addressed to me (the outer envelope was very interesting). It was not opened by mistake.

Sheraton Providence airport (real-life fawlty towers):

-dubious white stains on the navy blue duvet cover. The duvet cover was not changed but simply flipped over. Almost fainted when I saw it. I still have photos of it somewhere, I can dig them up if anyone wants to see.

-Fire alarm went off 3 times in a week, after midnight.

-Checked into hotel and walked into the room to find the handyman sitting on the edge of the bed, watching tv and seemed to be masturbating. Never said anything to anyone, I think I was in shock for a while.

-Travelling teenage magazine salespeople took over a section of the hotel. They were essentially a gang of runaway problem-children (you should read about them online, they terrorize entire neighbourhoods). They called women who had the misfortune to walk by them fat/ugly, the men old/fat/whatever. The worst was them harassing a group of Japanese businessmen who were waiting for a taxi. For about five minutes they sneered at them calling them things like "chincky-eyes" and other horrible words. On a side note this was the first time in my life I've ever seen or heard something like that, it was horrible, genuinely horrible.

All of this happened within a two week stay. I spoke to the management about the travelling teenagers on many occasions. I asked them to kick them out of the hotel as they were constantly harassing other guests, they offered me a bottle of wine. The hotel ONLY kicked them one when of the maids discovered that they had moved and destroyed a lot of furniture and were housing a big snake in the bathtub. They seemed to be truly upset about the situation, but they let it continue for far too long - which is totally unacceptable. I was supposed to stay there for 2 years, I never set foot in there again. I took my business elsewhere.

W lakeshore drive

Gave me a room with drilling on the room on top. Woke up at 6am when I went to bed at 2am and paid quite a bit. No apology even after calling and complaining about how they could even think of selling this room to anyone. Checked out at 10am - enough was enough.

I always wonder if there's room in the thread for any balance. For example, I've stayed in the Sheraton LHR for 10 years now, probably 8-10 nights a year. I'm always upgraded to the 3rd floor where the rooms still seem almost new after a few years.

Minimal staff interaction...free buffet on the weekends, hamdy Thrifty car location just off the lobby.

The halls? Who cares, really, they're just how I get to my room.

I recommend highly unless you're expecting something special. It's an inexpensive airport hotel and it's not hard to get to the city from here using public trans.

4P NE Philly . As the previous Hilton DT it was lacking, they did some touch up jobs to be a 4P and now they once again need to redo the place top to bottom. Thought I was staying at a Welfare Hotel and hardly any outlets in the room and the few lights were maybe 60 watts if that. Its a Cat2 and dont know how its not a Cat0

W Seoul

Service all around was poor from the Kitchen restaurant to check-in and out. They seem to hire the most attractive people but perhaps not the best candidates. Having to repeat myself three times for orders at one of Seoul's most expensive hotel restaurants shouldn't happen. Also, getting up to get server's attention shouldn't either. I know the Kitchen is a massive space but the servers could at least pay attention to their zones and customers. They cook fine meals for the most part.

Check-in is a mess with Chinese gamblers, tourists and the weekender domestic couples and families. It's nice for smokers who an just go over to Woo bar and lightup while waitin. Bad for us non-smokers to have a lobby and bar hybrid. Check out is equally bad as well. First cut in line, first serve.

The rooms are stuck in 2005 and feel dated. Hardest and coldest toilet seat in Seoul.

I emailed upper management and never heard a peep back. It will always be on my ****list.

Expressing myself succinctly, that's not objective, it's just stupid.

Furthermore, if a hotel doesn't receive at least three negative votes (and probably five), it shouldn't be on the list in the first place.
