The following hotels have been voted as the worst in the Starwood portfolio of hotels.

Hotels with a low number of votes, and there is a majority that only have one vote each, should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Moreover, several hotels have had significant renovations since the original vote(s) were cast. As a result, negative votes for those properties should be discounted.

> June 2014: Bath towels stank. Night staff at front desk were curt and unkempt -- a guy had crooked glasses and dandruff all over his suit jacket. He frowned several times while processing my check in. No smile or welcome, verbally or nonverbally. While I was checking in he received phone calls from several guests, and he refused every request swiftly, firmly, and without apology: "No. What?! No. Housekeeping is closed." I trashed the hotel in a post-stay survey and received an apology from the manager with a vague offer of a future room upgrade. No compensation.

> May 2013: Sloppy housekeeping; room had trash left behind by previous guest. Broken AC; maintenance fixed for the afternoon, but it broke again overnight. Front desk, upon checkin, claimed no king rooms available (only doubles) despite non-suite king rooms for sale on spg.com. They assigned me a room by the elevator where I could hear nonstop dings and whooshes from the elevator shaft. Front desk was staffed by an uppity fellow who never cracked a smile. What a joke of a 12k points redemption.

> December 2012: Moldy shower tiles. Some rooms were so tiny you'd think you were in Tokyo. Irritating whoosh-whoosh from elevator shaft if room was close to elevator. Bad insulation of sound from hallways. Low class clientele - loud and boisterous folk who enjoyed bragging at 3 a.m. about sexual conquests. Low class front desk - when I asked for a room change because of noise, they asked me if my room was dirty.

> December 2014 (Royal Beach Club room): Heavenly bedding in name only, if at all. Mattress lacked the signature plush comfort; linens were thin and scratchy, pillows were flat and unsupportive. I slept on my bended arm and in the fetal position for warmth. Woke up sore and exhausted every morning despite 9-10 hours of sleep. Lounge breakfast was bland; happy hour was a joke -- buffet ran out within minutes of replenishment. If you wanted the hot item you had to keep tabs on the staff and hustle to the front of the line ASAP when a line began to form.

The only hotel I would stay at in AC is the Water Club at Borgata.

I'm kind of shocked at some of the properties on this list. The Westin Diplomat??? I noticed this was on a couple of lists, but nobody gave any reasons. I think this is an excellent property. If you are going to put a property on the list of shame you should at least give some valid reasons.

I agree with William here that some properties are unfairly listed here.

Bill, can you please credit my SPG account with 100K points?

LOL. If I could do that, I'd probably have credited some to my own.

As to my comment, I was only pointing out what some other Flyertalkers have already noticed. I should have said one guest with multiple bad stays, however, so mea culpa on that.

Worst *wwod experience to date.
The Sheraton Heathrow has improved over the years. I have stayed there multiple times, recently in the renovated club level rooms, and have never run into frayed carpets, broken air conditioning, dirty fridge, non-working key cards, or 20-30 people lines at reception. The worst I can remember was a very small, no view, basic room that I got a few years ago on a Priceline stay. Even so, it seemed clean and well maintained. At the front desk, there are often trainees with limited knowledge of English and bad attitude. Sometimes there is no bell staff to help with baggage and when there is someone there they have to act as concierge as well. But, as an airport hotel, I find it satisfactory, although certainly not outstanding. By the way, I have also stayed at the Skyline and don't find it much better.

This thread is about bad experiences, it's not about bad properties in general. The problem is simply that almost every property is bound to have at least one unhappy customer.

Having stayed at the Sheraton Heathrow half a dozen times in the past 2 years, this review is spot on with the caveat that the first floor rooms are still pretty crappy. But SPG Plat and Gold will most likely be up on the club floor, with new carpet and somewhat nicer appointments. Skyline feels nicer, but IME its service is just as likely to be slow and inconvenient and the food in the sports bar at the Skyline is virtually inedible. Heathrow is better value most of the time; not a great hotel by any means, but not as bad as has been written here in prior years.

Yep, seems to be the case. I would refer people to the master thread for each property to get a balanced view.

I am the 'starter' of this thread and agree with all the posts above regarding the lack of 'accuracy' or 'potentially misleading nature' of it. Personally, I too have properties on the list that I have had good experiences in . Still I have decided not to agree/disagree with the "votes" and loaded all those that have been mentioned, no matter by who, no matter for what reason. So yes, the list should only be used as a 'guide' as it is based on relative/subjective experiences on those who decided to participate. To get a better/balanced view, one should approach the individual properties' threads.

On the whole, however, I think this can still prove to be useful. Those hotels that have gotten the most votes so far on this thread - FOUR PTS MIAMI BEACH, SHERATON PRINCESS KAIULANI, WESTIN CASUARINA IN LAS VEGAS - stands to show that the direction of the "votes" here are "in line" with the general sentiment of FTers regarding the properties. Hence, despite the significant 'margins of error', it could still be useful, especially to those who want to have a quick view of the not-so-good properties.

In a sense, this list would be no different from others that list the most 'inspiring properties in Europe' or the 'best hotel in Shanghai' etc. There may be properties mentioned as the 'best' by one that someone else might have found to be awful. And yet, they combine to form the overall sentiment that people come to FT to find. Under this theme I will continue to upload the hotels mentioned... but if enough folks feel otherwise I am also happy to delete this thread and free myself from the task of updating it on a consistent basis

Not sure how 'interesting' the Lurker's post is, but I agree with the Lurker's comment 100% and commend him for putting some of the other commentary in context.

Cheers,

Please add another vote for Delfina.

Typing from room 438.....ADA style bathroom, that could (should) have been mentioned at check-in.

I agree with Stimpy's post regarding expectations and special considerations before adding a hotel to this list. I recently blasted the Fresno 4 Points on their master thread, but would not put that hotel on this list.

Booked corporate rate of approx $180 an hour before arrival. Next rate up was $85 higher. Overall room appearance is shabby and worn. Sheer window covering has huge (aged) rip. El cheapo lighting fixtures, loud AC unit and a mattress past its expiration date. Nice looking Philips flat screen encased in oversized, dated cabinet that takes up way too much space in a small room. We have view of ocean and the condemned buildings where a convention/meeting space is planned. Have no idea what happens to the fourth floor view when this project is completed.

A notice on desk of party on 10th floor and noise to be expected of floors 6, 7, 8 and 9 from 7:30 PM to midnight on July 15 and 6 PM thru midnight on July 17. Our luck to be away from noise.

Is there a brand standard for stocking towels in bathrooms?

Very nice staff, especially Sylvia in lounge.

Actually, both my rooms were on the exec floor (3) and it was during the long walk through the hallways that I noticed the appaling condition of the carpets, walls, etc. However, my main issue was the 1/2 hour wait at checkin, and the fact that even when I identified myself as a plat, they still didnt open the proper SPG line. If the checkin hadnt been such a disaster, I would gladly overlook everything else.

I was up on the Exec Floor as well. Still found the room to be small and dank, and the lounge underwhelming. YMMV, but I won't be back.

After spending the better part of 2 days trying to get my folio emailed to me with no success I am adding the brand new Sheraton Stamford, CT to the hall of shame.

I can understand and even expect kinks in new properties, but rude staff and management that does not return phone calls is inexcusable.

btw, The Front Desk managers VM still says "you have reached Joe Blow at the Holiday Inn Stamford". It's been 6 days since you became a Sheraton. Might want to change that voice mail.
