Please help me understand Triple points
Disregarding the 50% elite bonus points, if I spend $100, I earn 200 base points.
With double points, I should earn another 200 points for a total of 400 points.
With triple points, will I earn 200 base points x 3 = 600 points?
SPG tells me that I should only earn 500 total points - i.e. 200 base points, plus 3 x $100. I'm confused. Why isn't it 600 points?

If you spend $100 normally, you should get 200 points. On a triple points promo, you should get 600 points (plus 100 more if elite)

Thanks for agreeing for me. I spoke with two SPG agents tonight and they both insisted that I should earn only 500 points (without considering the elite bonus). One even tried to tell me that the 50% elite bonus was my third set of points in the triple points.
Any suggestions on how to get an agent to understand the correct concept? I ask because I was supposed to earn triple points at the new Westin in Lombard. Only double points posted. I tried to get SPG to add another 200 points, but SPG will only add an additional 100 points by insisting that it is 200 base points, plus 300 additional points, to arrive at triple points.

[2 X $100 (regular 2x Starpoints) + $100 bonus (for elite members)] + 200 for the double bonus = 500 total. Take away 100 if you are not elite = 400.
This is how Triple Points was figured in the past.
[2 X $100 (regular 2x Starpoints) + $100 bonus (for elite members)] + 400 for the triple bonus = 700 total. Take away 100 if you are not elite = 600.
Or we can try to understand it this way:
Triple Points = 2 X 3 + 1 = 7 or 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 7. Take away 1 if you are not elite = 6.
If you actually got anything different, I would ask for an associate to get Program Services to research it. It could be that the calculation method has changed, but I'm banking more on it being misunderstood by the folks you've spoken to thus far.

I'm glad to announce improved PointMaven support for SPG.
Some of the new improvements:
* Database now covers all Starwood properties, including future properties (see, for example, the new Le Meridien in Bangkok).
* There are now more than a 1000 Starwood properties in the PointMaven database.
* Starwood hotels which do not participate in the SPG program are clearly marked (see, for example, the map for Dubai).
* Improved location and map accuracy
