Only if you want to delay the transfer by getting SPG customer service involved with having to do an airline transfer follow-up. With American Airlines AAdvantage that should delay it three or more weeks when they reject it.

Exclamation Timing is now a major SPG Amex issue

AA (and possibly other major airlines) now requires that points be deposited with THREE days. SPG batches the transfers, and it can take up to two weeks for the points to transfer. If you've booked through AA on an AA partner airline, AA cannot extend the deadline, and you'll lose your reservation after 3 days. The SPG program is otherwise a great program, but it lags its competitors badly in this crucial administrative area (Membership Rewards, for example, transfers more or less instantly). Has anyone found a way to work around this major shortcoming?

Does the AA account name need to be the same as SPG account name ?

If you want the transfer to go through without follow-up being required, yes.

So I have just (last Friday) thought I had transferred 25,000 miles from my SPG account into my wife's AAdvantage account. (Before reading this thread). Not credited to her account yet, and I guess never will be. How long will it take for AA to bounce the request back to SPG? I assume the points will end up back in my SPG account? Is there anything I need to do at this time? Thanks.

What is the current timeline for transferring SPG to AA? Is there a particular day of the week that transfer batch is processed or that the miles get deposited into an AA account?

Would appreciate any input from experts. Looking to do a transfer for an upcoming award and want plan out the timing of holding the award seats (which are currently available) and ticketing the held reservation once the SPG points transfer to AA post.

On the 15th day after your transfer was requested, you can call SPG and ask them for an airline transfer follow-up. Affinity will contact AAdvantage to confirm that they have rejected the transfer. If you ask for the transfer to be cancelled, which IMHO is really the only viable option, then the Starpoints will be returned to your account when that takes place.

.
Assuming both account names match exactly:

1. Transfer by Saturday ( can be later, but I have not tried).
2. Get the miles deposited on Wednesday.

I have been waiting for over a month now to get some AA miles from a recent Starwood stay. I have the account set up to transfer all stays automatically to AA miles, and I see on spg.com that the points have been deducted from my SPG account for transfer to AA.

Should I wait a bit more, or is it time to call customer service?

Sunday, Wednesday or both?

It's been a while since I last transfered points from SPG to AA. Last time I transferred points from SPG to AA they posted on Sunday. I'm reading now that they are posting on Wednesday. Are they still also posting on Sunday?

Cheers.
