FAQ :
http://members.marriott.com/faq/#will-rewards-and-spg-be-turning-into-one-program

Will Rewards and SPG be turning into one program?
These are two of the best programs in the industry, and we want you to benefit from everything that makes SPG and Rewards great. We don’t anticipate that the two programs will come together before 2018, and we will keep you informed of any updates. In the meantime, there’s no change to how you book reservations, manage your accounts or earn Elite night credits, points and miles in the current programs

Status Matches
MR Platinum <--> SPG Platinum
MR Gold <--> SPG Gold
MR Silver <--> SPG Preferred Plus
MR Member <--> SPG Preferred

If your status changes (i.e. Gold->Plat) in one program, your status in the other program will be automatically upgraded within 24 hours per Marriott FAQ

You can now link your Marriott Rewards or Ritz-Carlton Rewards account with your SPG account.
To link your accounts, log in to either account at:
http://www.spg.com/linkmarriott
http://members.marriott.com/

It will be a 3:1 transfer ratio between MR-SPG

If I have Lifetime Status in one of the programs, will I also get it in the other program when I link my accounts?
This is the Official Answer : "We appreciate your loyalty! Lifetime Status is specific to the program that you earned it in. While linking accounts will not result in Lifetime Status in the other program, your Elite status will be matched to the same Elite tier in the other program. Any existing Lifetime Status you already hold within either program will still be enjoyed within that program. We’re working on more ways to recognize your loyalty and Lifetime Status as we work towards harmonizing the programs, which we don’t anticipate happening until 2018."

Transferring points from SPG to MR does NOT change lifetime MR points.

Transferring points from SPG to MR does NOT count as activity & therefore does not extend the expiration date of points.

SPG platinum member matched to MR plat and now interested in the MR - UA Silver status match ? Check here.

Yes, but ~83 SPG points?

I found that MAGC has been available at select MR properties for many years, and you're correct that they give less at limited service brands. However, 250 MR pts are only 83.3 SPG pts, when we're used to 250-500 SPG pts. 250 SPG pts is barely worth it to me, while 500 SPG pts starts to factor into my booking decisions. MR will need to up the value if they'd like me to MAGC with them.

It was worth $5 F&B credit, but we didn't eat there so not useful to us in that regard.

last year worked on a targeted marketing program with Alibaba in which it signed 600,000 Marriott loyalty members in eight weeks.

Exactly. At 83 points there is no way I'd forgo cleaning. Minimum would have to be 600 MR points for me to consider. Otherwise I'd have them clean on principle.

The way I see it is I don't like people coming into my room and I want to help conserve, so this is truly a bonus for something I already do for the environment. I think if anything they will reduce the SPG amount to match the MR amount. 500 per night is pretty generous.

Why do you think a $5 F&B credit (or 500 points) is generous? In the USA, that would be less than a half hour of time for one minimum wage housekeeper including the employer paid portion of social security etc. MAGC also avoids the hotel having to pay for cleaning supplies, laundry (sheets and towels), coffee/tea supplies, and toiletries, although the toiletry/coffee supplies and towels can be requested when you do MAGC. You can also request additional bottled water if you're eligible.

It should be really just about 24h/48h max. Mine was done within 24h when I changed from Gold to Plat.

I can never argue with an economist on value of things

I guess I am looking at it from the earning side - it has been pretty lucrative for me for something I already do anyway. 500 SPG points/night makes a huge difference for me and that really figures into the math for me to choose SPG. I just don't expect it to last with the merger.

In terms of points earnings, MAGC eliminates the incentive to change hotels to get the 500/250 point Plat welcome amenity. For example, a three night stay with MAGC would earn 500 welcome amenity (if you don't take the breakfast option) + 2 X 500 MAGC - 1500 points versus three one night stays at 3 X 500 welcome amenity = 1500 points.

Can anyone help? I'm stuck in a loop. I recently got an amex platinum. rather than finding my existing SPG account, SPG opened a new one for me (with the same email address, not quite sure how that is possible!). I phoned SPG and got them to remove the old account. The old account is still somehow linked to my Marriott rewards account. SPG have said they have removed the old account and Marriott have said that they can't change the link. I'm stuck! Can anyone help? Is there an SPG on flyertalk?

When I try to access SPG.com, I see a purple page that they're updating the website, with RC, Marriott, and Starwood logos, the Marriott one being larger and located in the center. I wonder whether this is just standard IT or merger related.

The app seems fine.

ADDED: It's still down. The page has been saying to call, but a strange phone number is given with a 519 area code.

I've got it loaded right now & it's fine. No problems & haven't seen anything you described. I'm using Chrome on Windows PC.

Cheers.
