FAQ :
http://members.marriott.com/faq/#wil...to-one-program

Will Rewards and SPG be turning into one program?
These are two of the best programs in the industry, and we want you to benefit from everything that makes SPG and Rewards great. We donít anticipate that the two programs will come together before 2018, and we will keep you informed of any updates. In the meantime, thereís no change to how you book reservations, manage your accounts or earn Elite night credits, points and miles in the current programs

Status Matches
MR Platinum <--> SPG Platinum
MR Gold <--> SPG Gold
MR Silver <--> SPG Preferred Plus
MR Member <--> SPG Preferred

If your status changes (i.e. Gold->Plat) in one program, your status in the other program will be automatically upgraded within 24 hours per Marriott FAQ

You can now link your Marriott Rewards or Ritz-Carlton Rewards account with your SPG account.
To link your accounts, log in to either account at:
http://www.spg.com/linkmarriott
http://members.marriott.com/

It will be a 3:1 transfer ratio between MR-SPG

If I have Lifetime Status in one of the programs, will I also get it in the other program when I link my accounts?
This is the Official Answer : "We appreciate your loyalty! Lifetime Status is specific to the program that you earned it in. While linking accounts will not result in Lifetime Status in the other program, your Elite status will be matched to the same Elite tier in the other program. Any existing Lifetime Status you already hold within either program will still be enjoyed within that program. Weíre working on more ways to recognize your loyalty and Lifetime Status as we work towards harmonizing the programs, which we donít anticipate happening until 2018."

Transferring points from SPG to MR does NOT change lifetime MR points.

Transferring points from SPG to MR does NOT count as activity & therefore does not extend the expiration date of points.

SPG platinum member matched to MR plat and now interested in the MR - UA Silver status match ? Check here.

Starwood and Marriott Merger Update: Linking SPG and Marriott accounts

It's possible to link SPG and Marriott accounts now: http://www.spg.com/linkmarriott

You will get an instant status match in the other program.

You can also transfer points in both directions: 1 Starpoint transfers to 3 Rewards Points; Conversely, 3 Rewards Points transfer to 1 Starpoint

Looks like 3:1 MR to SPG

The deal is done: Marriott acquired Starwood.

According to the WSJ (http://www.wsj.com/articles/marriott...rts-1474605000), it appears that it will be a 3:1 transfer ratio between MR-SPG:

Marriott said the two loyalty programs would remain distinct for now and participants would be able to transfer points between the two programs, which together comprise 85 million members.

Each would match the gold, platinum and other status of the other program. But each member must transfer three Marriott points for each Starwood point, a sign that Marriott values the Starwood loyalty program more highly.
Tranfers officially are 3:1 as evidenced by the linked SPG-MR/RC accounts that allow transfers between MR and SPG. Unfortunately, transfers are experiencing "technical difficulties"...probably because so many MR members are now transferring their MR points to SPG!

As an SPG Gold (via cc spend, no less), I just got a nice little bump there. Dead simple to link the accounts.

When I go to the link site the language makes it seem like it's not live yet?

ETA: nevermind. Marriott link not working but SPG link was fine. Nice little shortcut to MR Plat and UA silver!

From the press release:

Beginning today, Marriott will match member status across Marriott Rewards – which includes The Ritz-Carlton Rewards – and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), enabling members to transfer points between the programs for travel and exclusive experiences when they link their accounts later today.
Marriott will launch a microsite later today, www.members.marriott.com, for all members of the combined company's loyalty programs to learn more about the reciprocal benefits now available and to link accounts.
Couple of bits from the FAQs, that I am sure many will be immediately curious about:

I have attained Lifetime status in one of the loyalty programs already. Will that be recognized in the Status Match to the other program?
Don’t worry; you’ll continue to enjoy all the benefits of Lifetime status in the program in which you earned it. We are initially matching your tier status between programs, and when the programs are combined in the future, we’ll consider ways that preserve the continued recognition of our most valued lifetime customers.
What’s the conversion rate between SPG Starpoints and Rewards points?
We’ve developed a conversion rate that brings the value of the points in each program on par with the other. Here’s the breakdown:

1 Starpoint transfers to 3 Rewards Points

Conversely

3 Rewards Points transfer to 1 Starpoint

For example, if you transfer 9,000 Rewards Points to your linked SPG account, 9,000 Rewards points will be removed from your Rewards account and 3,000 Starpoints will be added to your SPG account.
