No kidding! Even the Marriott changes many of us (myself included) have been complaining about don't look so bad after the Hilton devaluation.

If SPG did what Hilton did, I think it would look something like this:

Hilton London Park Lane:
BEFORE: 50,000 pts/night
AFTER: 70,000 or 80,000 pts/night (only 70,000 pts/night 2 months out of the year, so effectively I'd call it 80,000 pts)

Le Meridien London:
BEFORE: 20,000 or 25,000 pts/night (peak season less than 2 months out of the year, so effectively I'd call it 20,000 pts)
AFTER: 32,000 pts/night

I agree with others - not much to see here. Glad to see that that Manhattan properties are staying put (although there wasn't much higher they could reaonably go).

The Sheraton Parsippany from 3 to 4?!?! That place was a dump as a 3! They do fill up all the time though.

Question Make sticky

Can this be made into a sticky for the next few weeks?

I willing to bet starpoints, that this information will be posted again.

Maybe its just me, but I tend to ignore stickies since, by definition, they don't really change that often.

Danielli a cat. 7?! Maybe because Gritti Palace was closed for a long time and the occupation was really high...

Sheraton Genova cat. 1 is quite okay. If I have had to adjust then the Sheraton Firenze and maybe even Sheraton Bologna would go down one cat. At least Firenze is run down and needs since years urgent a renovation, but the owner is not willing to invest...

how does it work. I know if you already have the reservation and it goes up nothing happens... what about the other way?

I see a hotel that's going down. Can I book now, call the 1st week of march and get the difference back?

You have to rebook after the change is done if a hotel is going down.

Glad I decided to do Hawaii end of March. Otherwise I would not have used my points to stay there.

Just to clarify - category changes and cash and points changes will both be taking place March 5th? I was hoping there would be a brief period of time without the overlap.

Hyatt has gotten my last 4 Hawaiian stays. After this announcement I don't see that changing any time soon.

W Istanbul went back down to a Cat 5 after going to Cat 6 last year. Figured that might happen as it was getting too big for it's britches. Nice hotel but far from the action and Cat 6 C&P is often not much cheaper than the actual paid rate.

Edit: Looks like the Le Meridien Ist went to Cat 6...surprising since the W is a much better hotel...but I guess Le Meridien is a more popular business hotel?

+1

I was worried all Tokyo props would be Cat 6. I'm really surprised the Tokyo Westin is staying Cat 6.
