Comments: I was unable to request SNA's for this reservation and checking online a few days in advance the hotel did not have any availability for a number of days over the holidays. I was very pleasantly surprised receiving this upgrade at check-in. Very good Platinum recognition all over.

*Was pleasantly surprised that they have upgraded me 16 days in advance from a classic room to deluxe suite. Experienced this before at other cat. 5-6 properties, immediately sent an email confirmation with my new room type so I can show them upon check-in that I have been booked to a deluxe suite (I remember at the Imperial Hotel Wien, I was upgraded in advance to their Elisabeth Suite, but upon check-in, was downgraded back to deluxe. Thank goodness that I had a print out of the upgrade as they will normally honor that)

Surprisingly, after a year hiatus being frustrated w/ lack of upgrades, I'm 3/3 this year so far:

Comments: Walked in without a reservation, as I wasn't sure what parking charges would be (EUR 17, which is reasonable). Asked about avail, was told they were good, but got a better rate using the spg app, so I booked using my phone at the desk. Unfortunately their backend takes a long time to propagate this info to the hotel, even when the front desk guy called. Front desk offered me a drink in their bar (which was excellent). About 10 minutes later, checkin was done, and my luggage was waiting in my room. It'd be nice if they improved their backend, but great staff at the hotel make it not a huge problem. Would definitely stay here again.

Olivier is really whipping things into shape here. This was my 15th stay at the W in the last 12 months, but my first stay back here over the last four trips to DC as I swapped my loyalty to the Park Hyatt. (Due to what I considered to be some significant cleanliness/service issues that had become chronic.)
