Question for the Lurkers

I have a paid reservation for 12 nights in November. On the 6th night I have a 2 night award booking in Montreal, and I'm not planning on checking out of the Toronto Hotel. Will my award stay count as well??? Thanks

I suspect the OP is inquiring whether he will receive credit for the two-night award stay that is concurrent with the 12-night paid stay (from which OP will not check out while on the 2-night award stay). If I recall correctly, SPG does not allow accruing night/stay credit at two different properties on the same night?

Let me help unconfuse you.

Check in on Day 1. Check out on Day 13. On Day 6,7,8 Check in to a second hotel. Will credit be given for A-1 room for 12 nights and a second room for 2 nights, equal to 14 nights credit in 12 calendar nights, or B-only room 1 counts, and equals 12 nights total credit.

B is correct, but I guess we need to help out the Lurkers at times.

No, it doesn't. But neither are they caught immediately, so that is why I said that I'm wondering why it wouldn't, even if it is temporary.

Just answering in the context of the thread...I'm not a palm reader that can render an opinion on something that may or may not affect the final outcome.

Is using this fact to bump status to Platinum a good idea?

What do people think about doing multiple free stays using points to bump up to Platinum status? Theoretically you could use 50,00 points on weekends at a category 1 hotel and get enough stays...

Why? Ask yourself, are you only spending the points to get Plat for no reason other then to do it again? I travel enough where if I were down ~5 nights/stays I would do something to make sure I got Plat.

That depends on whether it's worth it to you to burn 50k Starpoints to earn Platinum status...and you happen to have a Cat 1 hotel nearby (only about 20 total) and don't mind checking in 25 times over the course of the year...

Two years ago, we held a focus group on this concept among many others to gather feedback as we’re always evaluating enhancements to the program to benefit our members. We value your insights and the conversation is always enlightening. Thank you for your passion for the program and for sharing your travels with us.

Not exactly. FT was contacted last night when this was first posted and informed that it was not true. Rather than let potentially inaccurate information of this magnitude spread like wildfire and create confusion, a decision was made (above the pay grade of the moderators) to temporarily delete the post and seek clarification from SPG.

SPG has now clarified that it is not true and the original post has been restored.

Most importantly at this stage, this tangent is not the topic of this thread. So the 'Onyx' speculation and conspiracy theory posts have been deleted. Let's please now return to the topic of award nights counting toward elite status.

If you have any further comments, questions or concerns about the 'Onyx' issue, please contact me via private message.

Thank you,
