Please correct me if I'm wrong on this: the new benefit basically only affects nights towards status, not stays.

E.g. six consecutive nights consisting of fully paid stays and award/C&P stays continue to give me only one stay towards status.

Only advantage (re stays towards status) would be that if I booked consecutive nights that only consist of award/C&P stays, I'd now at least receive one stay towards status for those nights.

Consecutive nights, no matter the payment modality or differences in rates or checking in & out, have always counted as a single stay. Paying with $$ & C/P does not change that. Consecutive nights are a single stay.

Posted this question earlier:
How about multiple rooms on a single night stay? eg: 3 rooms for 1 night?

All on separate reservations (points) but under the same name?
1 stay credit/3nights
3 stays/3nights
1 stay/1night (hope not!)

It should be the same as it's always been. You get points for all three, but stay/night credit only for the room you're occupying (i.e., one stay and one night).

I guess the crucial word in your post is consecutive. If two stays(regardless of paid or award) are not consecutive, then crediting for both stays and nights will be affected.

I'm happy that Cash+Points will count toward requal ^

It will open more possibilities for me in certain cities where the standard Starwood rate exceeds my allowed rate.

This is the 1st year I've actually had to think about re-qualifying as Plat, and this helps a LOT! This couldn't have come at a better time. I leave Fri for my biannual trip home, the detested road trip, and now I'm stopping a bit more often than I normally would. I have 3 stays booked for October and 2 for my Alaska trip in the 1st week of November. (1 for airport the night before, 1 for stay in Anchorage.) If it weren't for cash & points now being counted, I probably would have only 1 or 2 stays planned period.

Great move Starwood- this is SO much better than that photobook thing we got as a gift last year. Granted, this was a difficult year & I'm hoping to not have this problem in 2012, but it's making it much easier to re-qualify.

IMO, this is the best move Starwood has made since we Plat members used to get those amazing "Thank-you" gifts of staying anywhere on half the points. Nothing will beat THAT but this is a real gift, and it's for everyone, not just Plats.

I too think this is a good think for those of us whose stays are mostly personal/leisure (sorry business travelers!). This won't personally affect my reaching platinum status this year, in fact I'll end up with more than the required stays because of this.

However, I have noted in the last month checking for C&P availability that there definitely seems to have been a reduction in what is available or hotels are holding those back much longer than it seemed in the past. Wonder if it has anything to do with the new policy?

Quick question that might be dumb...

Wife and I are gold from being owners in Princeville. Do our ownership nights count towards Platinum status?

For instance, I am posting from the Westin St. John Villas where are staying for 7 nights for our anniversary. Obviously, our SPG number is on file for purchases and such. Will these nights count toward Platinum?

Also, is it 1/1/11-12/31/11 and each year going forward?

Not sure if this is the right thread to post there but here goes.

I am one stay away from Gold, have an award night booked, and the day after a 4 day paid stay at a different spg property Given that the award night will now roll me over to Gold, is that instantaneous? Would checking out and calling customer service before I head to the next hotel up me in status? Or do I have to wait a few weeks for processing?

I have never reached elite, so not sure what to even expect.

No. It normally takes a day or two for the stay to post, at which point your status will be updated. I think you'd have better luck contacting the hotel directly to see if they can/will do anything for you.

As I understand it, the change took effect on 1 October 2011 and is not retroactive, see FAQ:

Q: Will SPG Award stays and nights prior to October 1, 2011, count toward elite status?
A: No. Only SPG Award stays with checkout on or after October 2 and any nights from October 1 forward will count. No SPG Award stays or nights prior to October 1, 2011, will count toward elite status qualification.
So: 1/10/11 - 12/31/11 and each year going forward.

P.S. Welcome to FlyerTalk, PianoProdigy!

As in giving you a leg up on 10 stays/25 nights towards Platinum qualification? No. You would have to log 25 stays/50 nights to reach Platinum.
