Hopefully not. OTOH, loss of JK codeshares and feeder flights within Europe will affect BCN-GRU-BCN load/yields which may have commercial impact.

I imagine it would, although I guess technically they've stopped flying but not yet formally ceased to exist. I understand there used to be a LH lounge at BCN; guess they will have to recreate it. Will be in BCN next so I'll investigate.

This bankruptcy is really an early christmas present for Vueling

Vueling to fly to 23 new destinations from Barcelona Airport after increasing passenger numbers by 11.6% in 2011
Barcelona (ACN).- The Catalan airline Vueling intends to consolidate Barcelona El Prat as a “true hub” for intercontinental flights. On Thursday morning, Vueling announced that it will invest €325 million this summer by opening 23 new routes from Barcelona Airport

Finally, if you have anything more than a carry-on bag, the AVE is lot more cumbersome.

Overall more comfortable and less stressful? Sure. But neither cheaper nor faster.
I'd rather spend 2.5 hours working productively than spending the same amount of time going through security, spending time in the lounge, then on board, etc. IMO. The train is a lot less stressful. I sit down, and I start working.

TAP should take this great opportunity and set up a base in Barcelona, taking over some of the now-dead Spanair's operations, keeping Star Alliance ever present on the Iberian peninsula. TAP should set up a Barcelona-based daughter low-cost carrier and call it.... get ready for this... TAPA.

Not good.
The People's Party are to blame for much of Spain's pain, as a result of their policies essentially creating what became the property bubble. As opposed to the UK, Spaniards carry very little personal debt aside their mortgages. It is true, though, that Spain would have been in a better standing if the Socialists had not implemented some electioneering measures such as the 400 euro tax rebate for all and the "cheque bebe"

Really? Talking to the Spaniards here they squarely put the blame on the PSOE. After living here for twenty years, it's easy to see the PSOE richly deserved the pounding they received in the latest elections after they destroyed what was created under Aznar.

But I digress:

My main concern is Ryanair expanding. Please, enough is enough.

This is probably not the right forum for this. But I think that you are both right: asterion about one of the causes of the crisis, and GuyverII about who the general public blames (without properly analysing the situation).

Anyway, I feel sorry for the people at Spanair (even if they were generally some of the worst airline personal I have ever met during my travels ), but I will not miss the airline. But I am a bit worried about the future of *A in BCN.

Nonetheless ... the JK points are probably lost.

LH has already updated their lounge directory:

Star Gold Card
Airport Barcelona
Location Sala Pau Casals: Terminal 1 - between the floors of the boarding zone and the Sky Center, on the south side
Name Sala Pau Casals
Opening hours 5:00 am - 10:30 pm

If I'm not mistaken, this one was for F and HON only, and the JK lounge listed for everybody else, as recently as yesterday. Those Germans - efficient and unsentimental!

I also read this in another thread but the couple of times I have been in F they did not address me to this lounge.
The decoration/quality of the furniture is slightly better but the drinks and food offerings are the same, so not a big improvement.

1. I agree that is not the right forum to discuss this but the bubble was caused by the irrationality of the people thinking that the price of the houses could grow forever.
Of course banks, politicians,...fueled this but it had no sense that property prices in small towns, in the middle of nowhere, were higher than in Berlin.

2. +1 on Spanair but I actually miss more the end of LH Italia. The flights to MXP were very convenient and the fares fantastic.

+1. And let's put an end to discussing politics here, as it really has nothing to do with the demise of an airline that had been doomed for years, and the Barajas accident plus the current crisis only precipitated the fall.

Vueling and Ryanair are now trying to make the most of the situation, but I think it's the former that will pull it off. It has the most routes in common, including the BCN-MAD shuttle, it's the "unofficial" airline of BCN and the one that should have more support from the government... but nothing like what Spanair got, of course.
