The People's Party are to blame for much of Spain's pain, as a result of their policies essentially creating what became the property bubble. As opposed to the UK, Spaniards carry very little personal debt aside their mortgages. It is true, though, that Spain would have been in a better standing if the Socialists had not implemented some electioneering measures such as the 400 euro tax rebate for all and the "cheque bebe"
