X5 and up tends to have very slim upgrade chances. Inquire, and when offered an upsell, keep pushing on it, you might get what you want.

This was my first rental with Sixt (Decided to switch after seeing exorbitant rates at National and disappointing choices at Hertz (PC member)). The app oddly provided me the option to choose my vehicle (Didn't do it as I only saw the notification after picking up) even though my mobile check in had failed. The lady at the booth was friendly but firm in terms of the upgrades she offered. I was initially hoping to get a Merc C-Class or 330i but she said they had ran out of those cars and only had a Volvo XC40 or a V60 (both with approx. 1.5k miles) for me to choose from (credit where credit is credit's due, I didn't see a single 330i or C300 in the lot). She then offered me the choice to upgrade to a GLC43 (initially 80/day, negotiated it down to 36/day but since this was a 15 day rental, I declined at the end) or CLE (didn't ask about the rate as we needed 4 doors) both also with approx. 1.5k miles (they seem to have taken delivery of a lot of these as I saw more of them than I did BMWs in the lot). I did also ask about platinum upgrades and she said that they had no upgrades available (She did offer me an additional discount on the GLC after hearing this). Still, I would say that the process was very efficient and enjoyable especially when compared to Hertz counter agents( who, during most of the times I've rented with them, are not only stingy about upgrades, but also charge crazy amounts for them). When I headed to the lot, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that they had parked our car in the Diamond area. To conclude, although I wasn't totally blown away by what they had on offer (would've still loved an upgrade), I definitely got what I paid for and would definitely recommend renting with them.

App offered a range of paid upgrades to an X5, X6, GLE350 or 4 series convertible for $25/day. At the counter, the agent offered a complimentary upgrade to an X5 or X6. As I wanted a sedan for the drive to SFO, I asked if they have any 7 series and after talking to the garage folks, I was handed keys to a 2024 740i xDrive. It had 26K miles but still drove like new. An overall very pleasant rental experience (aside from the very long wait times for the shuttle).

FWIW, I only saw a single X3 and X4 at SEA last Thursday (entire lot was full, but there were a lot more cars in the return aisle which i didn't take note of) and zero Q5s (On this note, BMWs were few and far between that day). However, it did seem like Sixt had just recently taken delivery of a lot of those AMG GLC 43s (they had like 6 of them and the gate agent did offer me one of less than 1700 miles on it) so you might get one of those. There were also a couple of Volvo XC60s scattered throughout the lot.

LIN (Milan Linate Airport) - 2 week rental in July 2025
Sixt Platinum
Booked: XDAR - BMW 7 Series or equivalent.
Assigned: Nothing assigned on the app.
Received: XFAH - Audi Q8 TFSI Quattro 340PS Petrol Hybrid
Not the best experience at Milan Linate. Arrived at the rental booth to be told that they had nothing in the booked class of vehicle and infact the only thing they had was an Audi Q8 on winter tyres (in July!) or a BMW I5. I accepted the Audi Q8 which had low mileage and high specification and was fine for our needs. On return I found out that the agent had charged me an upgrade fee. Phoned Sixt who immediately apologised and refunded me the upgrade fee.
Beware Italian car rental agents - they often try and scam customers. This isn't just a Sixt issue as I have had similar experiences with Avis and others. At least with Sixt they refund immediately when you phone the German customer helpline.

I have to second that. Ordered a Peugeot 508 in Sixt Milan Malpensa, on arrival they nothing close to it, only 308 or 408 (all while I see in front of my eyes lots of C5 Aircross/508/3008/5008 cars in the lot). After I insisted they were willing to upgrade me to an Audi A4 4x4, only for me to get stuck with it due to oil missing. They made me waste a full day of my trip, only to travel to Innsbruck becuase that's the only station that had cars (they had none). Eventually called the German customer service who apologized and gave a 150 euro discount for next travel. Something
