Yet another rental at Toulouse last weekend;

Sixt Gold Card

Booked manual BMW 1 Series, was offered BMW 1 series diesel auto with NAV or a free upgrade to Merc B Class. Asked about a cash upgrade to something more exotic but they had nothing there at all available which was confirmed at the parking which was really pretty empty. I went for the 1 series which was a decent car and very frugal!

Nice friendly staff again both at the desk and also when returning the car.

Can anyone comment on what I might get as an upgrade in Dubai? I am a Sixt Diamond, and Sixt's cars are quite a bit more expensive than Avis/Europcar (at this location) - in the order of $50-70 for an Economy, which is basically double. Were I to rent an Economy (EDAR), could I possibly hope for any sort of a "fun" upgrade, or am I better off not risking it and saving the money for this particular rental? Never rented from DXB.

I find that upgrades work best when you are renting something like a BMW 3 series because the next step up is usually reasonably interesting. If you rent something from EDAR it is less likely that the upgrade will be particularly "fun" although if you look back through this thread then you will see some pretty impressive upgrades mentioned.

I usually go through m-broker.de (and qipu.de) to get dirt cheap rates for large cars so I don't have to sweat the upgrade. As DIA I'd need to give it a try but a few weeks back I was actually paid to go to the competition

Hi El_Duderito,

In your post you mentioned having to go elsewhere for your rental. I am sorry to hear about this. Please let me know in a private message what I can do to help.

Many thanks, Gary Caudwell.

First rental with Sixt, I am Platinum based on a comp from my airline status.

MCO, reserved PCAR (Volvo S60 or similar when I reserved, later changed to CLA or similar)

At check-out the agent mentioned they had specials of 75% on upgrades and I said I should receive a two car class upgrade based on my Platinum status.

He assigned me a BMW 328i, which as far as I know is just a one-class upgrade. Made for a tight fit for four adults and their baggage.

I received a survey after the rental, I gave them praise where appropriate (great shuttle drivers, efficient return) but expressed my disappointment in not receiving the appropriate upgrade (there were plenty of E Class/5 series on the lot).

My first rental from the new Sixt station at London Heathrow T5 Sofitel

Booked manual BMW 3 Series

Received auto Mercedes E Class with Nav - a really beautiful car.

Great service too - will certainly use them at LHR T5 again soon.

Paris, one way rental... dropped off in Nice.

Platinum

Reserved PWMR, got XFAR.

I am renting in Las Vegas next month, I sure hope that since it is a new branch, they know how to treat Platinum members.

Booked: IVMR
Status: PLAT
Requested: Anything diesel and AWD/4WD
Received: IVMR - Renault Scnic

Last time I made this exact trip I booked an IWMR and received a PFAR (BMW X1) so I thought I'd give it a shot again. Ended up with a Renault Scnic FWD and petro, no upgrade, no diesel. The car ended up disappointing us a a couple time since we were in the Alps with a lot of snow. Couldn't make it to a few locations due to the amount of snow. Should have grabbed some chains, oh well.

PHX Phoenix, AZ, USA

Booked: Intermedia (ICAR?) (no extras)
Received: PCAR (Mercedes CLA 250) w/ Satellite Radio
Status: Diamond

Really happy with my first SIXT rental aside from the fact that none of the counter people even knew what status was (literally they had no idea what Diamond was), and the return was surprisingly busy but lacking SIXT employees.
Definite value for $35 a day.

How did you get Diamond if it was your first ever rental? Did you match in from another program?

hi skyvanman,

Thanks for your post. I am sorry to hear about the staff at the branch in Phoenix not recognising your Diamond status.

Please could you send me your reservation number in a private message so that our management team can investigate this?

In the meantime, if you require any further assistance or information, please feel free to contact me directly.

Many thanks,

Gary Caudwell.

Booked: FACR
Received: PCAR (Mercedes E 350) w/ navigation and several options
Status: Diamond

I was in touch with Sixt before my rental (trying to get a nice convertible, e.g. by booking STAR or bigger) but they didn't have anything above a Mustang (which I don't like). I was promised an upgrade to XCAR/XFAR (BMW 6 series coupe/SUV) but it turned out that they don't have them (yet). Based on the manager's job titles the person who promised the car class wasn't local to PHX and probably did not know what cars PHX has.
I received the biggest car on the lot so I am happy. The staff were expecting me and indeed haven't seen a Diamond card before

Received: STAR (Mustang Cabriolet w/ Satellite Radio)

Booked rental less than two days. I'm addicted to SIXT now, can't wait to have more rentals at locations with SIXT stations. This time around they knew what Diamond status was (same person checked me in) and were generally awesome. This is my first time ever driving a convertible and it sure is fun.
