This time around: Weekend trip to Milan!

Platinum

Munich Schwabing
Booked: CLMR (diesel request and extra driver)
Received: SWMR Volvo V60 D2 w/ nav

Easter weekend, so a busy time. Was offered a Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost, or for 30€ more, the Volvo. Slightly disappointed by the RA as I was told the Volvo was more powerful, then I got the keys and saw it was a D2. So about the same as the Focus. Apart from that, stilla better car for the trip, fuel economy around 5,6l/100km including through the Alps.

It really did feel a bit weak and underpowered for a car of that size. But, fantastically comfortable for the long drive, sat nav, and plenty of space. Not bad overall. ^

Also, 3rd time getting a car over what I am allowed according to T&Cs.

Nice car with many extras, though I would have prefered a rear camera to soft close doors;-)
It was my first time at this location,it is very conveniant and central. As the cars are 2 floors down in a car park for anyone reading not so good with stairs there is a lift but at the front of the building away from the Sixt office. My compliments too, to the charming staff .
Will be back in a few weeks
It's my preferred rental location (no 21% airport or nearby train station surcharge, 24/7 open). Didn't find the lift entrance last time on returning the car and had to shift all my luggage up the three floors by stairs . Never got an upgrade here but usually book LWAR anyway (they wanted to upgrade me into a S Class only once but as I had a oneway so upgrade was denied as it was a Chauffeur drive division car). Will be there in a few weeks time again for another LWAR and have a pending booking request for an Aston Martin Vanquish in July (for my wedding).

Pick up: MUC
Status: Platinum
Booked CPMR (booked 10 minutes prior to pick up by App - oneway - as my LH feeder flight went tech)
Received FDMR - BMW 318d sedan Luxury Line manual (a real upgrade this time and no upsell attempt !)
Comment: the famed Sixt key vending machine at that location with those nice and common upgrades was empty and they were low on cars in general

You drive past the lift when going to the Sixt area. Last time I booked an LDAR and requested not to get a BMW GT as i think they are ugly. They gave me a 530XD touring and very nice it was. As it was Easter there was only a Touareg in a higher group and I would not want that!
Have fun in the Aston, a friend has one I think I am too tall for comfort in them;-(

This is the first time in years as a Diamond member, that I did not get an upgrade (not even a slight improvement of what I booked). Luckily I booked what I definitely needed as a minimum (FWMR) to transport some stuff. To be fair though I couldn't see any car in the lot that they could have offered me instead (despite some PDMR type car I could not have used anyway).

24h rental in late April

Platinum

Munich Schwabing
Booked: CLMR (diesel request)
Received: FDMR Mercedes C180 (swapped to Audi A3 1.4 TFSI)

Was allocated the C-Class, but whilst checking it over, I found a fault and since it was a Sunday, there was no-one to fix it. Swapped to the Audi, nice car, new, well equipped and comfortable.

Just dropped this one off, 48h rental

Platinum

Munich Frankfurter Ring BMW
Booked: CLMR (diesel and auto request and extra driver)
Received: PDAR BMW 520d Automatic (swapped from FFMR BMW X1)

Choice-Upgrade to a 520d, loved every single minute. A real gem! Drove like a dream, and made a busy 48h of 1000KM go past in the blink of an eye! Was sad to hand it back

Diamond

Montpellier Airport
Booked: BMW 3-Series or Similar
Received: Infiniti FX30d S (Also had an option of paying for 1-series and taking the 3-series they had)

Wanted an Automatic, so stuck with the Infiniti. What a beast of a car. Great service too at MPL Cheers to Sixt...

No status.

NCE Airport, 9-day one-way rental to MUC.
Booked: Opel Zafira

At pickup, the agent said I'd been upgraded to a BMW 7-series that they wanted to send back to MUC. They were starting the paperwork when I casually asked "Is it okay if I drive that through Slovenia?"

Sadly the answer was no, which I recalled reading in their fine print about what exactly was allowed in Slovenia. So I got the Zafira, which ended up being fine.

But I still give Sixt NCE credit for the upgrade for the purposes of this thread.

FRA Airport
booked BMW 3 series touring
received VW Tiguan = downgrade by one category

first the agent wanted to upsell me to 5series, without telling me about additional costs - saw this luckily when she handed over the contract
obviously I refused then she said - you have to wait some 45 minutes as I cannot give you the upgrade for free
found a Tiguan, I accepted as I had an urgent appointment

called customer service hotline - they said you only can claim to a lower price, when the rental is finished
I've asked for providing me the class I've originally booked and she promised that somebody would contact me - 30 hours later nothing obviously has happened

I think there are other agencies out there - never had such a ridiculous attitude towards a customer regardless if there is a status or not.

quick update. Still nobody contacted me, although the agent told me my correct phone number, which was on file. This shows me that Sixt currently only tries to screw their clients.

Upsell without asking happened to me before, but there I've realised only when I returned the car.

With such a customer approach I can only warn everybody to use Sixt. However I'm not sure if the grass is greener on the other side. Or in case it is, its only because it rains more often.

Hi boekel,

PM your rental details and I will ensure my colleagues are given a nudge.

Thanks, Matt

That's a real stonker of a [potential] upgrade!

I'm sure the Zafira was just as nice

FCO - Fiumicino
Booked: ECMR (fiat 500)
Received: EDMR (fiat Panda)

Biggest POS car ever (fiat Panda). Plus there was a lot of damage to the front right of the vehicle, the driver side door, and it smelled. I should have taken pictures of the damage but I didn't since it was marked on my rental form. I asked if there was anything else available and the counter agent said no. Disappointed in this rental.
